The frog and scot is a very nice bar/restaurant that serves french orientated food, which is a good place to stop by if you're in the area. On the inside, the atmosphere is very relaxing alongside the darker more moody ambience with the decor and the lighting which was very pleasant, however walking past in the sunlight, it's a bright and vibrant atmosphere which seems inviting. The menu was made up of bar snacks, small plates, larger plates and deserts, all of which, as mentioned before, is based around french food and cooking. We started off by having the tomato salad which was fresh and very vibrant in colour, and then shortly followed by the ham croquettes which were crispy and golden accompanied by an amazing filling. Then followed by the trout tartare which was a good taste of the fish but cut through by the sweet dressing and the cherries on top which gave a really pleasant balance to the overall dish. To finish off the smaller plates, we had the burrata which was extremely delicious, and the bavette steak which was cooked medium rare and was flavoured wonderfully with the chimichurri as a garnish. Then we had one large plate to share which was the sirloin stake which was my favourite thing there, cooked to a perfect tenderness and served with chimichurri as well with fries and a salad. Overall, this was an extremely pleasant meal, however if you are going here, do expect to spend quite a...
Read moreWe were recommended this restaurant whilst spending a few days in Kent. Honestly I went in with every intention of having a great night, enjoying my meal and leaving a healthy tip.
The silly things; tables are wobbly, the decor is dirty and the plants are plastic.
The more serious stuff; We were made to feel genuinely unwelcome, like an after thought. We were asked by one staff member if we wanted desert which we then ordered. Within 30 seconds the manager asked if he could move us to a 'comfy area' so he could use the table.
We were then left for 30 minutes for one slice of chocolate cake. I was intending to leave a decent tip regardless, because despite the silly stuff, the fish was actually good. Paid and as we're leaving, a woman runs over and says they don't accept cash...?
Despite the fact you can't turn down legal tender, it was a bit bizarre that this wasn't mentioned at any point before we tried to leave. Paid by card, kept the tip because I noticed 10% is already added! (never a good sign)
I was willing to chalk this up as me being grumpy but the next night we tried another restaurant that was within walking distance of these guys and it was incredible service with food 10x the quality of the Frog and Scot so frankly I felt justified in writing this.
Oh and a final note, overpriced. A 200ml bottle of coca-cola was £4. I didn't know they even did a...
Read moreThis restaurant seems to show up in so many publications these days so we decided to try it for a Saturday lunch. While the staff were nice and decor were certainly inviting, the food was very disappointing for this price point. For the money spent, you’d be much better off at somewhere else in Kent like The Pig ( Bridge) or Boys Hall (Ashford). It seems as if some staple ingredients (their bread and a yoghurt sauce and heavy olive oil drizzles) feature multiple times so even though you’re instructed to order many dishes, it feels as if you’re eating the same thing. For example, the “focaccia” bread snack (which is not focaccia bread at all), was also used in the apple fennel rarebit. I had been looking forward to this rarebit which was on the specials menu but the fennel had been pickled so long it was actually not fennel anymore and there was not an apple or taste of apple in sight. The same bread makes an appearance for the gnocco dish - also flavorless. The charred leeks were undercooked and flavorless, the steak was chewy and cold and the potatoes were absolutely drowning in the aforementioned yoghurt sauce. To be honest, the pork belly fouee was the only thing with flavor and even then it was 95% fat. All the above with three small glasses of wine...
