The frog and scot is a very nice bar/restaurant that serves french orientated food, which is a good place to stop by if you're in the area. On the inside, the atmosphere is very relaxing alongside the darker more moody ambience with the decor and the lighting which was very pleasant, however walking past in the sunlight, it's a bright and vibrant atmosphere which seems inviting. The menu was made up of bar snacks, small plates, larger plates and deserts, all of which, as mentioned before, is based around french food and cooking. We started off by having the tomato salad which was fresh and very vibrant in colour, and then shortly followed by the ham croquettes which were crispy and golden accompanied by an amazing filling. Then followed by the trout tartare which was a good taste of the fish but cut through by the sweet dressing and the cherries on top which gave a really pleasant balance to the overall dish. To finish off the smaller plates, we had the burrata which was extremely delicious, and the bavette steak which was cooked medium rare and was flavoured wonderfully with the chimichurri as a garnish. Then we had one large plate to share which was the sirloin stake which was my favourite thing there, cooked to a perfect tenderness and served with chimichurri as well with fries and a salad. Overall, this was an extremely pleasant meal, however if you are going here, do expect to spend quite a bit of money.

Just this restaurant alone is worth a visit to Deal. Outstanding, mind-blowing small plates food concept. It is very well priced with delicious food. It's probably the best food I've eaten outside of London. The service was also really good, kind, attentive, and responsive. This place is great for a quick bite and a glass of wine or a full sit-down meal with a variety of dishes, each bringing you on its own flavour journey. We ordered 6 dishes for 2 people plus dessert and non alcoholic Espresso martini, and we paid 74£, so it's very reasonable. If you are really hungry or want to taste it all, order the same amount. Otherwise, scale down to 4-5 dishes. The portions are decent. My absolute favourites were the blue cheese puffs, the chickpea puffs, and hasbrown with fish. However, it was really difficult to choose favourites as everything is just so tasty. This restaurant has just recently changed their food concept from 3 course to small sharing plates. Therefore, most of the pictures here are out of date. Check my photos to see the latest offering and looks of the food. This restaurant has both outside and inside sitting. If the weather is great, it is worth to sit outside.

This place has been on my list for a while. Unfortunately they close in the afternoon so no good for a late lunch hence never making it. Thankfully I was in Deal super early last weekend and managed to secure a table. Service was a bit slow with our water request being requested three times. Food nowhere near as good as anticipated and was average at best. My table ordered the set lunch. Whilst waiting we asked if we could have bread, three tiny slices fir £3. A few halved cherry tomatoes with pesto for starter and the main steak was VERY chewy (and not rested). Overpriced IMHO for the quality! Drinks were one price on menu and charged as 20% extra on bill; plus, a single glass of average wine £12!!! £60++pp for lunch (with 2 drinks) Seems a lot of venues have increased their prices significantly recently (as I understand they have to to survive) , however, it's my belief only those with excellent customer service and amazing quality produce will ride out this storm. Sadly I won't be rushing back.

We were recommended this restaurant whilst spending a few days in Kent. Honestly I went in with every intention of having a great night, enjoying my meal and leaving a healthy tip.

The silly things; tables are wobbly, the decor is dirty and the plants are plastic.

The more serious stuff; We were made to feel genuinely unwelcome, like an after thought. We were asked by one staff member if we wanted desert which we then ordered. Within 30 seconds the manager asked if he could move us to a 'comfy area' so he could use the table.

We were then left for 30 minutes for one slice of chocolate cake. I was intending to leave a decent tip regardless, because despite the silly stuff, the fish was actually good. Paid and as we're leaving, a woman runs over and says they don't accept cash...?

Despite the fact you can't turn down legal tender, it was a bit bizarre that this wasn't mentioned at any point before we tried to leave. Paid by card, kept the tip because I noticed 10% is already added! (never a good sign)

I was willing to chalk this up as me being grumpy but the next night we tried another restaurant that was within walking distance of these guys and it was incredible service with food 10x the quality of the Frog and Scot so frankly I felt justified in writing this.

Oh and a final note, overpriced. A 200ml bottle of coca-cola was £4. I didn't know they even did a...

This restaurant seems to show up in so many publications these days so we decided to try it for a Saturday lunch. While the staff were nice and decor were certainly inviting, the food was very disappointing for this price point. For the money spent, you’d be much better off at somewhere else in Kent like The Pig ( Bridge) or Boys Hall (Ashford). It seems as if some staple ingredients (their bread and a yoghurt sauce and heavy olive oil drizzles) feature multiple times so even though you’re instructed to order many dishes, it feels as if you’re eating the same thing. For example, the “focaccia” bread snack (which is not focaccia bread at all), was also used in the apple fennel rarebit. I had been looking forward to this rarebit which was on the specials menu but the fennel had been pickled so long it was actually not fennel anymore and there was not an apple or taste of apple in sight. The same bread makes an appearance for the gnocco dish - also flavorless. The charred leeks were undercooked and flavorless, the steak was chewy and cold and the potatoes were absolutely drowning in the aforementioned yoghurt sauce. To be honest, the pork belly fouee was the only thing with flavor and even then it was 95% fat. All the above with three small glasses of wine...
