Bangkok Pavilion — Restaurant in Dover

I booked for a family meal for Boxing day. My father drove over 100 miles and it was my brothers birthday, who also travelled for another county.

I made the booking online over a month before. I called up a week before and checked the booking was OK and they were definitely open for boxing day. They read out my details to me over the phone and said yes. I said are you sure, definitely open boxing day. And it was yes all the way.

Turned up to them closed. We knocked and called and eventually a woman opened up. I explained all of the above and she said said sorry with everything I said and said yeah yeah yeah and not a lot else. I'm absolutely disgusted that I've been lied to. They clearly had all my details and couldn't be bothered to call me and say they weren't open. I am livid. My poor Dad and brother were so disappointed. We looked like absolute idiots walking round trying to find somewhere else to eat.

The women didn't offer anything. She didn't really seem bothered either. Myself and family have been going to this restaurant over the years and we definitely won't be going back.

No loyalty and clearly have no idea what they're doing and they frankly don't...

So let me first say that as far as quality good goes this place was impressive and the service was personal And friendly too. We ordered soup, satay and dumplings for starters I tried everything and it was all delicious in fact I could not fault them then for mains we had red curry, pad Thai, beef salad and massaman curry and this is where the fifth star was lost. Massaman was great pad Thai was good but the red curry and salad were not great. The menu assigned the both dishes three chillies (the hottest option on the menu) but there was almost no heat at all in either dish; the salad was very salty and the red curry was kind of bland and just lacking the flavour I was craving. But this is personal preference I guess, and as I said the quality was not in question lovely meat and veg just not to my taste. The final let down was the desert menu which was unfortunately the same generic list of pre packed frozen desserts that seem to do the rounds in Thai/Chinese/Indian restaurants around the country. I would definitely return but maybe make some requests to the chef or different choices...

Watch out for the card trick when paying. We were overcharged £10 on the machine vs the printed bill. We spotted this outside so went back. They didn’t seem surprised and quickly promised to refund but we’re still fighting to get the £10 back. In the end we had to report the transaction as fraud so make a point of checking the machine amount and don’t assume, as we did, that it matches the bill.

It was a disappointing end to a disappointing meal, which started with us being told we weren’t allowed to share the mixed starter so we had to order a starter each. This was followed by a really bland meal. The green curry had hardly any taste to it. Deal is a long way from Bangkok.
