It appears that nothing is homemade!!!
My husband and I went out to dinner on Saturday night with our best friends who were also celebrating their wedding anniversary. We chose this restaurant as we wished to have a really 'special celebration' meal, however this was not the case. As we were looking out to sea I assumed that the prawns in the prawn cocktail would be fresh...how wrong was I. Once I tasted the starter I couldn't believe how bad it was. The prawns were watery, and tasteless and the sauce was obviously catering marie rose sauce (they didn't even add an ingredient to make it look as if it had been prepared in the kitchen). I felt that £9.50 was too much for something that was very poor in quality. Everyone else at the table had the scotch eggs, which again, weren't prepared on site. I questioned what 'was' made by the chef, and I was told that they had to purchase from the authorised supplier that all the restaurants have to purchase from, and nothing was made from scratch.
I must admit, we all had steak for our main course, and it was really nice. However, the chips were frozen...not even hand cut!!!!
All the deserts were also bought in, again none of them made on site. Im not quite sure why they employ a Head Chef, as all that is obviously required is someone to cook the steaks, and undo the packets for everything else and put it in the microwave!!!
Our gentlemen had a larger each before dinner, then a £30 bottle of red wine with dinner. Us ladies had a bottle of white at £22. When the bill arrived it was £275 for the four of us,(even thought they had deducted the price of the prawn cocktail) My husband and I are often out to dinner, and are quite used to paying this amount, but not for this poor (except the steaks) quality of food.
The reason we chose to eat at this restaurant was because of the name above the door, but I can assure you....we will never eat here again, or any of the other restaurants that bare Mr Whites name. Everything seems to be frozen (btw, all the fish is also frozen even though Dover has fresh fish 100 metres away!!!!!).
I really had hoped to be writing a great review and saying how much we enjoyed the evening, but sadly I cant. We did have a lovely waitress that looked quit embarrassed when I asked her questions relating to the kitchen. I also mentioned my disappointment to another gentleman, but he didn't say anything.
I will be contacting Head Office re the quality of the food, not that I think anything will be changed!!!
My advise to anyone who enjoys good freshly prepared food.....dont go to this restaurant!!!!! Im sure there are very good restaurants locally that can knock spots...

We tried the afternoon tea, which was okay except that the crust had not been removed from all of the sandwiches and one sandwich had no beef except for a very tiny piece, 80 percent of which was just bread. Even the butter did not reach the attached crust.
The evening meal, was very disappointing in both content and service. The roasted tomato soup was fine, lacking the taste of basil, not out of the ordinary. The Steak and the Redefine meals were okay but again, nothing to indicate that this was fine dining. Ice Cream was excellent.
The service was appalling. The server was stood, two tables down from our table, leaning against the wall, talking and laughing loudly to a couple throughout the duration of our main meal. Yes, not surprisingly, Mr. White’s English Chophouse, was empty except for ourselves and two other couples, and a small group who had left by this time.
Having eaten our main meal, we were waiting for our plates to be taken away and order our deserts. After a timed ten minutes, in which the server had not budged from leaning against the wall, pontificating, my wife attempted to attract her attention, without success. I turned and tried, and my only option, other than to get up and walk to her was to talk out loud and louder until I had to shout to attract her attention.
Eating out in Dover, we had a marvellous experience at the nearby Il...
Read moreLet me preface this by saying I’m not a chef, a restauranteur or anyone of any sway in the hospitality sector. However I am a passionate amateur foodie and so, I feel, an average member of the public
From the start, I wasn’t acknowledged at the front desk. ( either short staff or budgets allowing for the vacancy) once someone saw me I was put at a window seat. It’s worth noting now that the air con temperature was way too low. Very cold.
Once sat. I wasn’t given water or a drinks menu. This should be addressed.
I saw this was a Marco Pierre White restaurant and so went for the Sunday roast which promised a lot in its description. However, on receipt of it I was very disappointed. The Yorkshire pudding, pig in blanket and stuffing were all clearly frozen packaged and warmed up. The beef was edible although slightly overcooked and not pink (I understand this is personal preference though. Gravy came with the skin on it and the potatoes were almost whole and boiled (please can we all do better with our roast potatoes Britain)
Veg was a let down. Reheated and under seasoned.
Gravy although told it was made in house. Had no flavour to it.
The manager was wonderful and couldn’t do enough to make sure I had a good meal.
I had cheese to finish and there were no description of what cheese was what and there needs to be something like celery or grapes to balance...
