Lord Nelson Riverside Bar — Restaurant in Dover

Wow! What an amazing transformation of a let's be honest of a pub you really wouldn't go out of your way to go in before. When we entered we just sat there for a good half hour taking it all in and trying to work out where all the old walls used to be, turns out we was sat on the pool table. Was a very busy night for food when we went in which the barman had warned us would mean the food would take around 20 min to come (which we thought was good anyway) the ordering process was quick and easy with the barmen coming over to the table and taking your order and payment then and there. Started with the sharing nachos which I think are some of the best nachos I have ever eaten! There was just the perfect amout of chilli to nacho and cheese ratio! The barmen asked us if we would like our main with the nachos but we said no we will wait which I thought would mean our food would come out cold and dry.... Oh I was wrong. I chose the chicken and mayo burger which came with chips and side salad and it came out red hot which you just don't get anywhere any more. Was a very very nice meal with very good service which I just hope will continue as the years go on. I am also very looking forward to the summer when all the glass doors are open looking over the river. Would recommend...

Difficult one as I would like to leave a great review but sadly wasn’t blown away.

The prices I felt were a little steep for the area & quality of what we received, an to also charge a service charge I was a little taken back by.

The menus are a-bit spasmodic, mains listed but no children’s meals even though they do them - makes it awkward when ordering???

Also the specials are not listed other then a jot down on waitress’s notepad - again not great when wanting to think about what to order…. As you’ve forgotten this before even you sit down.

The wagyu burger (I beg to differ) to me was basic, slightly overcooked and again to be served with frozen fries, missing slaw no beef tomato or crisp lettuce as advertised, I feel the price of £18 steep!

The children’s chicken nuggets and chips was ok for a child however nothing more then chicken poppets.

Reading the other reviews I assume this was a one off and I hope things improve.

Fabulous place found whilst needing to stop over in Dover. Lovely knowledge of history in the area, friendly couple running the place, happy to listen to our crazy adventures and trials and tribulations of our biking holiday. Bikers, please visit for a drink or more if waiting in Dover. These guys need the support of friendly punters 😊 love young couples setting out with dreams and ambition. Toulwts absolutely immaculate and also provide lovely different scented handwashes and also (sorry men,but) sanitary products, which i have neve rin my 47yrs on this planet seen free in the cubicle! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 Brilliant,thanks...
