Came with my partner to celebrate last night in dover. We're both very fond and love a good Chinese, not expecting this... We came in hadn't booked a table, we went to the till, lady had walked out, looked at us and walked off to the one table that was sat down. We said we hadn't booked and she pointed at a table for us ro sit at. There was only one table taken and she had sat us right next to them. The lady came over and explained the menu, double checked with her as we did get a little confused, the two men next to us then explained it again because we didn't understand. I had ordered a martini and the lady got so confused as to what she was doing, and she asked the two men sat next to us to help her figure it out. We ordered our starters which looked amazing when they arrived, spring rolls and satay chicken were amazing, prawn toast completely threw us off, as soon as me and my boyfriend bit into them we were surprised with a bunch of grease, could not taste the prawn toast. We struggled to eat them as they did make us both feel uneasy. In the meantime the lady serving us had sat with the two men at the table, they did say they have a close relationship since both men have been coming here for years which was understandable, she swore a few times with us in the resterant which we both found shocking. Since me and my boyfriend were unable to have a private conversation without someone listening we did try and keep the conversation going with everyone so that we didn't seem rude. Mains arrived and it was shocking, chicken curry tasted nothing like it should and chicken was white as day, everything else was pure grease and fat, boyfriend had bit into a chicken ball and felt extremely uneasy, I had brocken it apart with my fingers and had grease everywhere. Out of our mains the only item that was not filled with grease was the egg fried rice, even this was overcooked and grittly. I became to feel very unwell with how greasy all the food was, had to step inro the bathroom because I felt unwell and then also stepped outside for some fresh air, my boyfriend really did take one for the team and struggled to get as much food down him as possible so that we wouldn't pay a crazy amount. Lady was nice near the end she came over and I said I wasn't feeling to well, she did ask if I wanted a glass of water. Upon leaving we asked for the bill she was lovely, she said she could see I was unwell and that my boyfriend forced as much food down him as possible. She charged us for one less meal because of this. Didn't want to come of as rude so we did thank them for there service apon leaving and wished them a good night. Me and my boyfriend got bavk home and we have both been feeling a...
Read moreHaving eaten at this restaurant many times over the last 20 odd years with it being a firm favourite, I was so disappointed with the appalling service and food we had for my sons 13th birthday meal out tonight. The guy that I assume used to run it was always so friendly and cheerful. The red flag was when I initially booked the table. The woman on the phone who took our booking was rude. When we arrived, it was the same woman who was then dismissive and abrupt. She asked how old my daughter was, I told her 8, she said that she would usually charge adult rate for an 8 year old, which I had no problem with. She then proceeded to go on about her age very aggressively saying on this occasion she will only charge half price for my daughter. I thanked her but if I'm honest I was happy to pay the full price if it had meant not having to go through her huffing and puffing and the awkward conversation. We were pointed to our table and given a tick list to choose our dishes from. We were then shouted at when we'd chosen to have our starters and mains all together. By which time my kids were look at me in disbelief and my other half was starting to get annoyed at the sheer lack of customer service. Once our food arrived a police officer walked in and the woman started having a heated conversation very loudly with the officer. It was escalating and I had to say please tone it down we're trying to eat in peace. The officer was extremely apologetic. The food was barely edible, the rice was rock hard, it just tasted nasty and the kids who normally love Chinese food barely touched it. The waitress carried on being curt and unhelpful and at that point we'd all had enough and we went to politely speak to her about the food and lack of service. There was no apology she even walked off as we were talking to her. We ended up paying for the adults and drinks but when then it wasn't worth the £55 spent. Won't be returning and wouldn't recommend. They need to have a serious think about their comms and engagement. Enough to scare...
Read moreGave myself a few days to calm down before I wrote this review as we have used this restaurant on and off for 30 years Firstly we booked 2 weeks beforehand and requested a round table . We were happy to pay the £10 per person deposit and took it down the day we booked. We expressed which table we wanted as we had family coming for a family celebration. Several times we said we wanted a certain table
On the day we were able to arrive earlier so , to be polite , I phoned the restaurant to ask if we could , and during this conversation I said we were the round table & was told they were happy for us to come early as long as we understood there may be a delay with food timings as other parties arriving at 7 pm
You can probably already guess that when we arrived the table wasn’t available . I asked to sit in one upstairs as we wanted a round table - sharing plates and catching up with family etc - and said we were disappointed as we had asked this . The lady WHO WE BOOKED WITH AND EVEN SPOKE TO WHEN GIVING THE DEPOSIT denied it ! Said we hadn’t booked the round table ? She Didn’t apologise , went into another room and said LOUDLY someone needs to deal with that woman in reception. They offered a small table which was shoved against the wall , near the toilets and in the path of the kitchen staff ? It was also next to three other smaller tables so would of been musical chairs to get served or go to the toilet
Very very rude management - I thought this lady’s cheeky persona was an act but actually she just has an appalling attitude and clearly doesn’t seem to care if customers leave unhappy ? I think the All you can eat element of the restaurant means they make more money from the take away
We were given our money back but no apology just staff repeating what can we do if it’s not in the book ?? Shocking customer service Save your money and...
