The positives are, the cafe is perfect for people watching, it's full of interesting antiques and a little quirky, which we love.
Coffee is great too.
We ordered the full English... the black pudding was thin as a crisp and dry..the bacon was insipid and had those horrible white spots on it, the sausages had no colour either - we don't understand why, as we've been here quite a few times in the past.
One member of staff had a terrible attitude, narrowing eyes, doesn't want to engage - yet the more mature lady was very lovely and welcoming who took our order, the complete opposite. I think she knew the other woman was being unhelpful I could feel a massive atmosphere in there.
The menu was sticky too, plastered to the table 😔
Where is the lovely gentleman? He's usually cooking and he food is fab when he's in. Something is not right. It felt like the food had been cooked a long while ago especially the black pudding.
Neither of us wanted to address this problem especially with an already antagonistic member of staff and we didn't want to upset the loverly older lady either. Normally we'd do this face to face.
Either way, lovely little place, but won't be our future place for breakfast , we couldn't stand another...
Read moreI had a jacket potato with cheese, beans, salad and coleslaw. When it came out I had to ask for more coleslaw as there was less than a tea spoonful on my plate. The staff were happy to give me more. As I began to eat my jacket potato I noticed it was hard in the middle so I politely asked if it could be done again which the staff were happy to do. When my second potato came out it was still hard in the middle with cold beans on top. My partner had an all day breakfast. Everything was undercooked, pink rubbery bacon, pink sausage, cold beans and extremely pale toast. Also, everything seemed very wet. The black pudding appeared as though it hadn’t been cooked at all and was sitting in a pool of water. I politely said to staff that we was unable to eat our food and asked for our money back. The manger came over, was apologetic but a little defensive and gave me £11 back. I payed on card but was given cash which was a slight inconvenience but I didn’t want to complain anymore as I already felt very awkward so I accepted the cash and left. Overall the staff were friendly and helpful but the food was extremely disappointing and we we will definitely not...
Read moreAwful place. I will never step foot in this cafè again, aside from the fact the food was just ok ( I could have cooked better at home myself), the main reason for this rating was the service and facilities. I asked the woman who was cooking if I could use the toilet as there were two chairs blocking access to it. When I asked if I could walk past the kitchen to get to it (holding my 3 month old baby in my arms) she said “no, that’s the kitchen just move a chair” in an irritated tone of voice. I was not rude when querying this, however I can’t say the same for her. When I did get to the tiny, dirty toilet there was no changing facility and I had to go elsewhere to change my baby. I would not have stayed here had my mother not already paid for the food. Manners...
