I recently dined at The Yak, and I must express my disappointment with the experience. As someone who enjoys authentic cuisines, I found the food to be far from what I expected. The flavors were bland and did not reflect the rich, vibrant spices that are characteristic of Nepalese traditional dishes. Instead, the offerings felt very Eurocentric, seemingly tailored to appease a non-Asian palate rather than honoring the authentic taste of Nepalese food.
When I raised my concerns with the waitstaff, they mentioned that they were trying to cater to the public's preferences. However, this approach misses the mark for those of us seeking genuine Nepalese cuisine. The idea of compromising authenticity for wider appeal is disheartening, especially when it results in a menu that lacks the bold flavors and complexity that make Nepalese food so beloved.
Additionally, I found the prices to be quite steep for what was ultimately a mediocre meal. Even after requesting extra spice to enhance the flavor, the dishes remained disappointingly bland. Overall, my experience at The Yak was a major letdown, and I cannot recommend it for anyone seeking true Nepalese cuisine. If you're looking for an authentic dining experience, this restaurant is not the...
Read morewhat can I say I've eaten in lots of Asian restaurants over the years and this place is top notch for decor and the service is very good and attentive but let's get down to the nitty gritty food . Six of us dined and we began with poppadoms and dips £6.00 each and I must say I was a little disappointed they were small . dips were tiny and overall I thought weren't good value I've been to many places where they were much bigger lots more dips and were complimentary the mains I plumped for the equivalent of a chicken madras with nan bread again the curry itself had few pieces of chicken and nothing much else it was as spicy as I expected but I felt was missing something the nan bread again was small and thin so I dunno I expected great things and left slightly deflated would I visit again I'm not sure would I recommend again I'm not sure it wasn't overly expensive I've had much better from less assuming places and maybe slightly cheaper let's say if someone asked me to go here for a meal I wouldn't be...
Read moreExcellent. We shared two curries and they were some of the best I've had, my partner will also vouch for this.
The menu is a little vague with the descriptions of each curry dish (main ingredients, heat etc), though the rest of the menu is self explanatory. This didn't matter in the end as we picked at random and this turned out to be a great decision and one I'd make again.
The wait for food wait was longer than I would expect hense the 4/5 rating on service but the staff are great and the food was well worth the wait.
There a numerous reviews that mention the price. I would agree that this is most expensive curry house in the local area but it certainly warrants this. Rice was £6 which seems somewhat ridiculous, this aside, I thought it was the higher end of reasonable but worthwhile.
If you're a curry fan, or just a foodie in general, I'd certainly recommend a visit. I will certainly be returning.
