After a whistle stop tour of the Highlands and Central belt of Scotland, finishing off in Dunfermline, we were looking for somewhere to eat in or near the High Street and having eaten at most of the establishments in the area (and being mostly disappointed) we were at a loss where to go. We were wandering past The Canmore and thought, "why not" We were glad we made that choice, I can't believe we have not tried this place before. The decor inside is warm and welcoming, the eating area in the bar is nicely set out. We were taken to our table, ordered our food and drink. I opted for the haggis balls, steak pie and chips finished off with sticky toffee pudding. My wife opted for the small steak pie. What can I say about the food? Only outstanding, this has got to be the best bar lunch we have had all week. The food was hot, tasty, properly cooked and the portion size was enormous. My haggis balls were crispy on the outside delicious tasting haggis on the inside presented on a bed of turnip and potatoes with a lovely sauce drizzled over the top. My wife's small steak pie was double the size of other places we have eaten at. The steak pie meat was lean, chunky and melted in your mouth. The sticky toffee pudding was delicious and all the dishes were made from scratch all handmade by the chef. The price of the meal was very reasonable. The servers were polite, prompt and well presented. The toilets were clean and tidy. What a great experience! I can highly recommend...
Read moreMy wife and I organised a meal here in the Function Room for 25 people following a small ceremony at the City Chambers last week, and we had a great experience. We were initially struggling to find a venue for food that was close to the Chambers and suitable for the event, but after doing some research settled on the Canmore.
Communication was excellent, despite mine not being quite so excellent. We had a few emails exchanged beforehand, where we outlined dietary requirements (we had two guests with nut allergies), and were reassured that the team would make sure that the food was suitable for these guests.
The staff at the Canmore gave us a phone the week before to iron out the details of how tables would be arranged etc and gave us a feeling of confidence that everything would be as expected!
Guests thoroughly enjoyed the food on the day, and the staff couldn't have been more helpful. When our guest numbers started to dwindle later on at night, we were asked to vacate the Function Room, but told that we could stay for a bit longer downstairs in a side room which was perfect for the small amount of guests remaining.
All in all, a lovely experience, made very easy for us as customers. A very hard working team that the owners should be very proud of indeed. We will make a point of coming back in the future for some...
Read moreWe booked a table for a work event with 10+ guests. Among the party there was 2 vegan, 2 gluten free, 2 vegetarian, 1 nut allergy, I daily allergy and 1 pescatarian. As an ex restaurant staff worker I know that’s a lot to get right especially when those allergies and food preferences overlap. The head chef himself phoned to discuss menu options for the party making sure that there was plenty on offer to all guests. He made up individual starters and came in early to prep gluten free lasagne ahead of our parties arrival. The staff took extra care with our order to make sure everything was correct and the service was excellent.
Oh and everything was delicious - food and drinks.
15/10 would...
