I waited until the second time we ordered to review, to give the benefit of the doubt. The restaurant is lovely and the staff are really nice, unfortunately we really didn't rate the food. On the first occasion we ordered, we had the prawn in black bean sauce which was unfortunately super salty, We also had the satay skewers which were massive, but a bit sweet for us, okay I guess. We had some other things that I can't remember so they must have been good on the whole.. The second time we ordered we had the satay skewers again, this time super sweet and the chicken was dry. We also ordered the rendang beef, but they must have got my order wrong as what I got resembled beef with bamboo shoots I think. It was gloupy and sweet with too much cornflour and no aromatic flavour at all. Very different to what I expected to get. I don't want to be too down on them as the staff were lovely and maybe we just had a bad experience, but the food seems pretty inconsistent and overly sweet/salty. Maybe a little quality control wouldn't go amis

Lovely food and very helpful staff. Portions very generous. Would very much like to go back there again. UPDATE (April 2023): went on a quiet night - deliberately - and found the food still great, portions large and service exemplary. Hot and sour soup is the best I've ever had.

Excellent takeaway food always ready very promptly. Generous portions and possibly the best lemon chicken I've had this side of London. Phoned just before 9.30 tonight to place an order and unless I wrongly heard the words "we're not doing that any more" in respect of orders for tonight, as the completely different meaning "we're not doing that anymore" in respect of at all ever, in addition to also mistaking "we're closed now" for "We've closed down" then my favourite Chinese may be no more. I sincerely hope not because it's hard to fault and its absence would leave a large gap unfilled in Honiton- not to mention in my belly! . . I do hope I misheard several words twice over (in which case I'll then query the results of my last hearing test! ) but if not then this is not good news. I'm not sure either whether that's the complete restaurant gone/ going or just the takeaway aspect. To lose either or both would be a great shame as I've always found the bird's nest to be very deserving of the high ratings, my own included.

18/3/22 EDIT: still in business and still doing...

This is the best Chinese restaurant and takeaway in Honiton and the surrounding area. The food is absolutely delicious, it’s always ready to collect on time and the ingredients are excellent - chicken like you’d cook at home none of this nonsense stuff some of them serve up. We will also never forget when the owner fed us for free once a week through the COVID pandemic - like he did for all local NHS staff. He didn’t have to do that, nobody else did, but it meant so much and shows what a community minded individual the owner is. Wouldn’t go anywhere else. 5...
