This is a very dated building and all of the inside. There was/is no disabled parking but if you ask staff they will put a cone to save a space. However, parking in front of the hotel is very small, tight and limited. The staff are very welcoming and helpful but I found there to be skeletal staff and we had to wait all the time to be seen too, make an order or anything else. Our room was very spacious, clean and had a beautiful view towards the sea. Mum is very heat sensitive and the hotel was so hot this caused mums breathing problems to be more problematic than normal. She uses oxygen when it is bad and she used two bottles of 02 in 3 days instead of 1 bottle a month. The rooms windows were huge with one very large door like window opening which was a god send due to the heat. Anyway, the lift was super tiny and mum and I had to laugh when ether her foot would be caught in the doors or my bottom. Breakfast was the best breakfast we have had in years and with it all being cooked fresh. There is a swimming pool in the lower floors and a gym but we did not use these. There were classes of yoga and others being held in the large sun room throughout our stay and even a wake with the hotel catering for all events. We were sad to learn the building was to be tore down to make room for flats which would make sense as to why no updating of the hotel has taken place. We also found out that they rent there apartments out monthly and it was obvious that these guests were at home in the hotel. Very small children running around first thing in the morning or very late at night in a nappy and vest or PJ's while there mother got milk from the bar staff. Wasn't sure if I was in a hotel or hostel at times during our stay. We ended our stay early, I did advice the staff at reception due to my mum being ill due to the heat in the hotel that we would leave the following day but was still charged for the full week, no doubt they had booked the room out again...
Read moreAt first, my partner, father in law, mother in law, myself and 2 daughters weren't suited to our first room when we arrived last Friday 8th July, the Duty Manager was very polite & quick to accommodate, the room we were relocated to is very spacious, has a balcony with a fantastic view of the grounds (The Devoncourt’s greatest asset) and of course the stunning beach.
We go down for breakfast each morning, which is a very pleasurable experience, great food, seats & friendly staff, I would strongly suggest you include breakfast.
We had a party of 40 for a 60th Birthday & the space was wonderful, catering was great & the kids loved being able to play football, golf and roam the grounds.
There is a back passage through the garden to the beach which makes the trip to the beach straightforward, there are 2 pools, 1 indoor and 1 outdoor pool, very suitable for kids.
I attended the complimentary gym facilities 5 times, to be fair it exceeds expectations and after each gym session, the massage chair is a pleasure.
I would come back again, one staff member I met down the town even went out of his way to buy me a pint.
Thanks for the hospitality,...
Read moreHonestly, if there was an option to go for 4.5 stars, that would be my rating. We went for Sunday carvery - the meat was cooked nicely, especially the pork, and there was great crackling, pigs in blankets, stuffing, and yorkie puds - win. The veg was all cooked nicely, but the potatoes weren't proper roasties - I'd guess they'd been deep fried? They were OK, just not up to the standard of the rest, and the gravy was a bit watery (we like our gravy thick and full of flavour) so a couple of minor areas for improvement but the best thing about it all was the staff, friendly, and couldn't do enough to help. Absolutely brilliant . Thank you all for a...
