We love visiting Seaton, but this paticular cafe has really gone downhill sadly. When our food finally arrived it was unpleasantly greasy with an 'off' taste... possibly old stale fryer oil that needs changing?
We noticed the cafe floor was sticky with dropped food from previous customers and didn't look like it had been swept in a long time. One of our mugs was chipped and the menus were stained and grubby.
They claim to sell food from local producers, but the whole cafe has a sloppy 'greasy-spoon cafe' vibes.
What was supposed to be a nice treat eating out with family felt very disappointing, and to top it off I had a bad stomach after eating here.
Edited to add: After visiting, I checked their local authority food hygiene rating and the cafe only scored 3 out of 5! Which is classed as 'generally satisfactory' not 'good.'
There really is no excuse for such a low score, when even little mobile street food vans can achieve 5/5! I wouldn't risk eating here if you have any type of food allergy or vulnerability. We won't...
Read more"We have all day brunch" in a snarky retort said the kurt man behind the bar. This was the odd reply to asking if they did an English breakfast. He then waved dismissively at a menu on the table.
After a rather short period a waitress took our order, things were looking up. Then it happend, a loud whooshing sound like someone deflating a tractor tyre at the table. Arresting any chance of clam and conversation. The culprit, a subterranean hand dryer located in the bowels of the toilets.
The mandatory two doors unable to dull the dance from high velocity air and damp appendeges. For you to see they were wedged open affording you the full experience.
Food arrives, we foist the unwelcome serving tray at the server. Food looks good... Chips on par with an occasional green tasting one and fried eggs on the edge of being burnt on one side and uncooked egg whites on the other, quite the feat.
I left a 4 pound tip and it upset myself so much I'm writing my first ever...
Read moreThis place was an absolute disgrace! The staff are rude, have no idea what customer service is, when they serve coffee with cream that has turned, instead of apologising and making it right, one came out with the pot of Elmlea to prove it was in date, when we said that it can't of been stored correctly then that might explain why it is off. She still didn't apologise. Adamant that the cream was proper cream - which is laughable in itself. Then when we ordered another round of coffees another women came out and also presented what she said was one of the coffees with the off cream and said that we didn't stir it properly! How confrontational. Jenny Curry (whos review came 4 months before this one) clearly came across these two staff in training - you can see their induction/training went well. What a joke. Please do pay a visit to Scoops which is next door, there service is much better. Management there clearly know how to run a proper business. Shame on...
