The Community Waffle House — Restaurant in East Devon

Lyme regis New waffle house/café Bare with me im dyslexic. We went to lyme regis today to try the newly opened waffle house and honestly I was really disappointed. When we arrive me and my partner were stood for a while being ignored. One of the girls behind the ice-cream station gave us a dirty look and walked away to the kitchen. Two other girls were stood by the kitchen chatting and laughing looked at us and continued their conversation. It wasn't because there was no table because there was 3 cleared and clean tables, it just seemed like nobody wanted to seat us. After waiting a bit longer me and my parter left because we felt like we weren't supposed to be in there. Later in the day we went back with some friends to try to get in one more time. The four of us were shown to our table and when we got to the table we were all thinking the same thing. The tables are so cramped togeather that we could barely pull our chairs out to sit down. When the people behind us moved there chairs so we could squeeze in, we started looking at the 3 menus we were given. A few minutes later another girl asked us if we were ready to order yet ( obviously not, we hadn't decided in the 2 minute gap ) Now, I understand that restaurants run out of thing but to run out of one of the main ingredients in over half of the milkshakes and foods is insane. There was no vanilla ice-cream which ment we had to rethink 50% of our order because we weren't made aware of this at the beginning. When we received our food it was good. But the milkshakes didn't taste as nice as the other waffle house we've been to. They tasted watered down. Also we received one fork for 4 of us ( 4 knives) Not only that but the music way too loud. We couldn't have a conversation without say "what?" Or "repeat that" Another thing that disturbed our visit was the fact that one of the girls was rude to an old man who came in and tried to order but she just said he'll have to wait because she has other orders to take. This man came in just after we did so he should have been served before anyone who was after him. Also, you could hear everything that was going on in the kitchen. It was very loud and not thought about. And my last complaint will be the "Disabled" toilet. There is only one toilet in the whole facility. Now im not intelligent but if im wrong correct me, legally a disabled toilet should be disabled friendly, however this toilet is not. My partner has a disability and the toilet was very difficult because there was no support bars on either side of the toilet nor was there an emergency pull cord in case needed. Which I'm pretty sure is illegal because it has a disabled toilet sign on the door. Not only that but when we looked for some hand soap under the sink there was a box of loose screws, where children could very easily access them. there was also a bottle of toilet cleaner sat on the bin next to the toilet. Again, accessible to children. So, I think we'll be sticking with the axminter waffle house...

An absolutely delightful glorious little community center and waffle House coffee shop bookshop and meeting place all rolled into one. A multifaceted space which although is located on the first floor was fully wheelchair accessible with the lift and that also makes it very useful for families with pushchairs etc. I went for breakfast and I had a waffle burger which was basically a breakfast inside a waffle lol. It was fabulous and thoroughly recommend it. One of the surprising things was that it is opposite what used to be River Cottage restaurant and adjacent to and overlooking a most beautiful town center churchyard and green space with well established trees and well-maintained garden. As you'll see in the picture it makes the view out of the coffee shop stupendous and it really makes you feel like you're in acquaint little town which of course Axminster is. It was my first visit to Axminster and this was the first place I had been to eat and it certainly won't be in my last. Dogs are allowed inside the building and the restaurant coffee shop area and there were so many people meeting friends from the surrounding town and just getting together for coffee and waffles etc. All the trappings of a standard coffee shop with the benefit of great staff good views and waffles!! I'd Have a waffle over a waffle...

We visited Community Waffle during half term, and it was clear how popular this place is—on our first attempt, there was a queue out the door! We decided to return the next morning for breakfast, and it was well worth it. We ordered three different types of waffles, each one delicious, and the staff were warm and welcoming, making the experience even better.

What makes this venue truly special is that it’s more than just a café; it’s a fantastic community hub. There are various events held here, creating a space for people to connect and support the town. We loved the opportunity to contribute by purchasing a "Pay It Forward" meal, knowing that someone else in need would benefit from it.

Our son also had a great time playing on the mini arcade, adding a fun touch to our visit. It’s wonderful to see a business that not only serves great food but also brings people together and gives back to the community. We’ll definitely be back and highly recommend it to anyone...
