We searched online for somewhere to have lunch in Axminster. The Castle Inn revealed it had 4.5 out of 5. We were not disappointed. The pub was quiet, but we had arrived just after meals were starting to be served. We were invited to choose a table in the restaurant. We were provided with the day board and printed menu to choose from, together with an explanation of what was not available that day, only two items. We were asked for our choice of drinks, which were quickly served. Both my wife and I chose bubble and squeak which consisted of two fried eggs and three rashers of bacon, and in my wife's case two sausages instead of bacon. In both our opinions the bubble and squeak was cooked as it should be. Slightly browned edges. For dessert my wife chose two poached conference pears with ice cream, whilst I chose bread and butter pudding with custard. No complaints about the quality or quantity of any of our choices I would say this. If you love freshly cooked home style food, this is the place to eat.    Read moreMe and my wife decided to pop in after an evening in Exeter after looking through the window and seeing it was not too busy. We patiently waited as the barmaid was already serving a couple of people. The barmaid saw us and said "will only be a few minutes" as she disappeared in the back. As she come out, another group of people came through the door and instead of serving us, she looked right past us and served the locals. All in all we were waiting around twenty minutes, I said to my wife we should leave and go somewhere else. Will never go in this pub again, as it is one of those "only serve the locals type of places" Disgraceful customer service from the young barmaid. AVOID if you don't live...

However, upon arrival the lady behind the bar abruptly told us that we would not be able to stay as the children were not welcome. We did explain that we had called ahead but she just said no. We didnât even last 30 seconds! Would not recommend.
Just to clarify - 4 children does not fit my definition of large but I concede that itâs open to interpretation depending...
