Yesterday evening (12/12/18) a group of us went to The Folly for a pre Christmas meal and drinks... we booked a table for 7:30pm well in advance, yet there seemed to be no record of this anywhere for the staff and we were asked to prove our booking confirmation. We were then given a table that was marked as reserved for someone else but told that they might need it back later. It was very very cold in the restaurant and most people were still wearing coats. We sat and our drink order was taken and bought out swiftly. We looked at the menu and were disappointed that the specials board was merely a repeat of the limited menu rather than anything different, and choice was extremely limited for the vegetarian member of our group. About 30mins later our food order was taken, but food itself took over an hour to arrive. Thankfully it was all pretty tasty. For the rest of our time there we received no service whatsoever. No more drink orders, no dessert menu, no table clearance, we even had to seek out staff to pay the bill. The young lady bought our bill over and we asked her to stay as we were ready to pay immediately. We paid part card and the rest in cash. We were due some change so waited while she took the money to the till. Except she then didn’t come back... and eventually started clearing a separate table. It was only when I approached the male member of staff working and informed him that we were waiting on change that he prompted her to get it for us. I asked to speak with a manager and he told me that there was none available but he could help me. I listed our grievances and his response was “well what do you expect me to do about it”.
So our night can be summed up as terrible service, ok food, and what really amounts to an attempted theft... it will be a long time before I consider trying there again and will be actively warning others who ask for...

Food was way off the quality of carvery and instead of an excellent choice of up to 5 vegetables were served with peas and carrots frozen mix. Yorkshire puddings were burnt on top. Definitely not up to...

We’ll be visiting other places before we consider...
