Blackbirds — Restaurant in East Hertfordshire

Long story short, we ( party of 3 couples) went here Saturday 22nd April 9 pm ish. Bartender got 1 drink wrong, when we tried to explain the issue to him, the young shortish blonde lady ( we think to be the bar manager) butted in to the conversation and said “ you have to keep the drink as you tasted it and due to Covid we will not change it” (we had already paid) I only smelled the drink immediately after it was placed on the bar in front of me and did not taste it as it looked the wrong colour and don’t really see what Covid had to do with it , it wasn’t like they were going to re sell it. This young lady was very irrational and argued with rationality, she was incredibly rude, and started to swear at me. We got 1 third of our money back for the entire round of 6 drinks that we left. This lady has got no place working with customers, the other bartender was just inexperienced and needs to ask questions if he doesn’t understand what a drink is. On the positive side, great doormen (sub contractors) and rational and helpful. Disappointing selection of handpumps, so opted for an inevitability overpriced keg beer, Brew Dog IPA.

My initial menu selection was unavailable and I ordered the 'Classic Club' instead.

Sandwich duly arrived, but the 'bloomer' turned out to be standard white tin of a spectacularly poor quality. When the barman asked if everything was OK, I told him it was curiously lacking in flavour, his reply was fairly nonchalant and suggested my choice of drink was, perhaps, partly responsible.

Given that I usually drink stronger and more flavoursome beers, I assured him it was the bread that was primarily at fault here.

Again, my comments were brushed aside as if unimportant.

Should've gone to Wetherspoons after all; they know how to treat customers and, whilst their food is hardly gastropub, it's inexpensive and tastes of something. Neither of which could be said for the Blackbirds; definitely won't be going there again (will avoid the chain's...

Had a lot of nice things to say about this place lately but last two visits have been dismal. First occasion there were no burgers (there are several burger combos and deals on the menu). Second time was a birthday occasion, barmaid did not think to mention the grill was not working even when someone handed over a cake- Clearly, we were there for food. All parties were kept waiting at the bar when ordering drinks as the barmaid was too busy chatting to the football crowd to even notice other people were there. When we returned with a food order, again we waited and were finally told about the majority of food options being unavailable. We said we were leaving and could we have the cake and even then it was suggested that we should wait whilst a pint for the extremely well attended chaps down the other end of the bar was poured.
