Slow service, wrong orders and cold food.
This evening got off to a terrible start taking my family to the beachcomber before the evening show at Butlins. Things started off badly when we ordered our food and waited and waited, another family came to the table next to us after we had ordered chose their food ordered and had it brought to their table while we still waited for ours. After a long wait we complained to a waiter and the food came at after but my wife’s food was stone cold as if it had been cooked when we ordered and then left on the side for ages, my daughters meal wasn’t what we had order so both were sent back. Mine was cool but not stone cold and I couldn’t be bothered to wait any longer so eat my Luke warm meal. On the second attempt for my wife and daughter their meals were ok.
We assumed things couldn’t go wrong twice so ordered a cheesecake for desert, this was a mistake as 40 minutes after ordering our desert still hadn’t come. We watched other tables around us order deserts and get them I. Under ten minutes. After a 40 minute wait and getting very annoyed as we were then due to leave to go to the show I went to complain and ask for a refund on the desert as it had taken so long I no longer wanted it. The refund was refused and the desert was finally delivered a few minutes later. There was no apology for the horrendous service it seemed like the staff though it was perfectly normal to forget about bringing food to customers.
We have eaten in 2 other restaurants on site and the service has been good but in the beachcomber it’s appalling and the bar staff clearly do not care if they ruin customers evenings or not.
If you like to have the food you actually order, the food to be warm and delivered to your table in a reasonable amount of time then do not go to the beachcomber and if they give you terrible service don’t expect them to do anything to make up for it as clearly poor service is considered normal in this abysmal restaurant.
My wife also had breakfast in there on one morning before this evening and the breakfast was not what you would call hot either but we had thought that was a one off and that food cooked to order for dinner would be different, clearly it’s not.
Do yourself a favour and eat...
Read moreUnfirtunately i have no choice but to leave a 2 star for this venue. This will be included in my full butlins review on TripAdvisor and Google. We (myself, partner and three children) went to the beachcomber inn to watch the England Vs Belgium world cup match. Although it was advertised in the weekly planner as being shown there it was not obvious where in the venue it was being played. After a bit of looking around we found it was being played on a single TV in a large conservatory type area. This was a huge disappointment as it was very hard to see the screen. The sound for the match was played via the TV which in a overcrowded conservatory made it impossible to hear anything. I ordered our food which came within a decent time. I ordered the mixed grill medium rare. When i got to the steak it was cooked medium well which isn't to my taste so i asked that it be changed to blue in the hope that i could have a steak i could enjoy. The waitress was very appologetic and polite, and got the plate changed fast.
Unfortunately when the new plate came i took one bite out of the steak and noticed a long hair in my tomato which completely put me and my partner off our dinners. By this point i was really dissapointed and just asked for the food to be refunded. The staff were helpfull and refunded whilst offering a new plate of food which i declined as i did not want to attempt to eat a third time regardless of it being free. I filled in a form with a senior waitress who was also very helpfull.
Usually i would have given a 3 star for this experience as although i was disgusted with the meals and match setting, i was very happy with the way the staff dealt with the issues. However i wanted tonight to be perfect for my children as my fondest memory of a family holiday when i was a child was eating a meal in a similar pub whilst watching england play, this has ruined that chance for me to experience this with my children, hence the 2 star.
As a highly qualified and experienced grill chef having worked in AA rossette and michelin star restaurants i understand that this is not the front of house staffs fault, but they did their upmost to help me how they could, if i was to review based on their service, it...

Front of house staff were friendly and well mannered. Myself and my 2 friends ordered food. My friend and i ordered a chicken burger whilst my other friend ordered a pasta dish. There meal arrived pretty quickly id say around 10 minutes after ordering however my meal was at a great delay. I waited over 20 minutes for my meal which i understand is standard for some pub’s and restaurant but the fact that my meal came out 20 minutes after my friends is quite frankly unacceptable. When my meal finally arrived the chips where brown and oily, onion rings were burned and the chicken burger was RAW. Yes Raw! It was clearly pink and undercooked. As you can imagine i wasn't best pleased. When i asked to speak with the manager he took the chicken away and returned shortly after to explain why the chicken was pink. He went onto say that the chicken vein bursts to dye the chicken breast pink he said that this happens often and is completely normal. I have never heard this before and i have worked in hospitality/food and beverage. I was completely disgusted in the fact that he came up with this to try and cover his own back. My friend who also had a chicken burger was also put off by the managers story and could not finish her meal as it was very off putting. The manager spoke in a way that was very condescending and as though he knew better than what was clearly a raw piece of chicken.
Overall i would rate this restaurant 1/10, due to the fact that food was not presentable or edible and the manager was very patronising...
