Morrisons Cafe — Restaurant in East Staffordshire

I made an order for an English breakfast at the same time as my colleague, 10 minutes later his arrives, mine doesn’t come till 40 minutes later!!!!

I spoke to the woman I ordered the food from when she was in the kitchen and not only did she act very vague about it, as though she wasn’t the one who took my order, when I asked where it was she glanced over to the hot rack and said “we’ve had some staff call in sick so we’re behind, your food will be out in a minute”.

If that was the truth I wouldn’t have minded too much, but 4 just eat deliveries & 2 other customers food orders were made and completed whilst I was still waiting for my food.

I spoke to another waitress as she passed and asked for a refund, as my colleague had finished his food 20 minutes earlier, she apologised and said I’ll get your food out to you now, which she did; which begs the question, if she could sort it that quickly, why wasn’t it done so 40 minutes before.

I know what to expect from such a cheap breakfast, it’s essentially microwave food, that’s fine, but not when I have to wait like Gordon Ramsey himself is preparing it!

All in all, I ate my food and it wasn’t anything special, though it wasn’t unpleasant either, but I would have much preferred to have had my money back and to have gone somewhere else.

The first woman who took my order and didn’t care about my situation should be ashamed of how she acted, no professionalism or care at all!

Ok, I will say that there is not many places you can eat as a family of 4 (2 young ones) and it comes to around £17. I cannot fault them for price and also I cannot fault the staff, they are nice, professional but always working hard. The food, relative to the price is extremely good however I think that if they do offer something they should be able to prepare it properly. Sometimes the kids order peas and they get beans. I sometimes take a chance ordering poached eggs for example and I have never had one that doesn't seem hard boiled. Black pudding needs to be cooked on a hotter surface to produce a sear and bacon needs to be more crispy. I don't know anyone who likes elasticated bacon fat, and as much as it might sound like I'm bashing the place, these things are only mildly infuriating, I will always return. The cafe really helps us out with its price point, it allows us to have a small breather, get a change of scenery for my family and I and not have to worry about...

We went on a Sunday lunchtime and it wasn't overly busy. We ordered our food and sat down, half hour later no food. Asked a staff member if they knew how long the food would be and was told they are just plating it up. Another 15 minutes pass and still no food! Asked a staff member again, this time for a refund as we were fed up with waiting and the lady just walked off saying she'd see where it was. We did finally get the food after almost an hours wait, wasn't really worth the wait tbh. Overall the service could have been better, maybe they need more staff for the size of the cafe? Won't be returning...
