Firstly on arriving 10 minutes before our booking we were graced with a long queue, not really bothering us as these things happen. Unfortunately whilst in the queue I received a text message saying table will be cancelled in the next 5 minutes unable to alert them I was actually in a queue waiting. When seated we were given glasses for the refill Pepsi quite promptly my partner and son went to the carvery first and was greeted with a man called Justin at the burton branch, I use the term “greated” very loosely they told him what meats they wanted and didn’t engage in any eye contact threw a Yorkshire pudding at them and they moved onto the veg where there were no carrots the cabbage was that dry it had gone crispy and there was only the dregs of gravy at the bottom. I then joined the queue with my daughter again “greated” with a grunt from Justin we got our meats and moved on where there were still no carrots, cabbage and now no mash or cauliflower cheese so the only thing I had to put with my meat was a spoonful of dried macaroni cheese roast potatoes and peas so I asked justin if he could replenish what was missing to which I got “ There still cooking” now as a carvery I find it VERY strange that you don’t mass cook this food so it’s ready to replenish when it’s empty. So whilst standing there waiting for some sort of veg to come out my meat it’s loosing temperature quickly in the mean time Justin starts what I can only assume to be a just eats order and proceeds to slop what ever veg he can find left into these brown tubs piling thick chunks of gammon fat into it. When the veg FINALLY starts arriving Justin takes it on himself to start filling his brown tubs with the veg whilst the 10 people in the queue that are waiting for said veg to arrive just wait even longer. When waiting for the veg I noticed how dirty and un inviting the hot plate looked good all over it dried up and stuck to the hot plate ( I do have photos). Finally I arrive at the sauces and gravy after waiting 25 minutes for the veg to arrive, I’m greeted by no apple sauce no mint sauce and only vegetarian gravy at this point I just want my food it’s now been nearly an hour since I was sat at my table. When I arrive at my table my partner and son are nearly finished there dinner and to my amazement when looking at my sons plate I noticed this rather large round dried clump of meat when I asked him he said he gave me the very last end piece as he had ran out and no more beef was ready! 1) how have you got no more beef ready? 2) is that acceptable to give someone to eat? (I do have photos). A poor family next to us waited 40 mins for some more gammon to come out as that’s all there child eats yet it still didn’t make an appearance and they left without eating. This was nothing short of a disgusting and shocking experience from a massive chain. I will not be returning to burton Toby Carvery again from Justin’s complete lack of customer service skills too the complete shambles of waiting times for some veg and the cleanliness you need to drastically change something as...
Read moreWhere to begin. Nice enough staff as we walk in and get seated to the table and drink order taken promptly and that’s where the service stops!!! As you can see from the pictures standards of hygiene and cleanliness are not hot on the agenda at Toby carvery in Burton on Trent, and, considering they advertise “lamb every Saturday and Sunday” you might see from the bare bone in the pic that it was very very slim pickings. So obviously we ask the server if there is any more lamb to which he replied “I dunno” and off he went to check. Surprise surprise no more lamb. Bear in mind this was at 6pm, 3 HOURS BEFORE CARVERY CLOSES!!! So we bit the bullet and just asked if there was enough on the bone for at least 1 serving so my partner could have the lamb (which she was looking forward too). Yet again the reply was “ I dunno”. How can you not know when you work here as a server in the meat section of a carvery!? Honestly this guy looked and acted as though he didn’t even really know where he was let alone trusting him with a carving knife! There was food everywhere scattered around, no attentiveness and certainly no care given to anyone getting a carvery. When a lady in front of us asked if they had anymore mac and cheese the answer to that was “we’ve ran out but buy some off the menu” great service that is. We won’t cook you no more for the remaining 3 hours of our carvery but feel free to spend some more money with us and order it separately!! Overall filthy place, no personality or clue from the servers to what’s going on with no care and disappointing no lamb even when advertised with no mention of subject to availability on any points of sale! The server we had was a gentleman with a black beard. Sorry no name but he was the only sever on with...
Read moreDisgraceful Experience at Toby Carvery - An Embarrassment to Hospitality
Our recent experience at Toby Carvery was nothing short of appalling. We reserved a table for seven, hoping for a classic carvery meal, only to be met with an absolute disaster that any self-respecting restaurant would be ashamed of. When we arrived at 8 pm, expecting the full array of meats, we were horrified to see almost nothing left. Just some leftover turkey and bones — no lamb, no beef, no pork. How can a carvery be out of its core offerings, especially at a prime dining hour?
When we raised our concerns with the chef, his response was disgraceful. Instead of an apology or a proactive solution, we were told, “This is all you get,” with a dismissive shrug. His attitude made it abundantly clear he couldn’t care less about our experience. My mother even asked him to speak with the manager, but he walked off and never came back. This wasn’t just bad service; it was pure indifference and a slap in the face to paying customers.
At that point, we decided enough was enough. There was no way we were paying for scraps and disrespect, so we simply got up and left. Toby Carvery prides itself on its “great British roast,” yet they ran out of nearly everything by 8 pm and had staff who didn’t even bother to make it right. This is beyond unacceptable and points to a complete breakdown in both management and customer service.
If the CEO of Toby Carvery values their brand, they need to take immediate action. Until they can guarantee that customers will receive the quality and respect they deserve, we won’t be returning. And frankly, I’ll make sure others know to avoid this embarrassment of an...
