Me and my Mrs came here for her birthday as we’ve been several times before for anniversary’s and birthdays and she’d been wanting it but couldn’t due to pregnancy. She’s a month post partum and we were looking forward to coming again. We always order the chateaubriand with the blue cheese lettuce wedge and peppercorn sauce. The food was as good as always and we enjoyed both starter and main but she’d said that the crème brûlée wasn’t as good due to some parts being warm and others cold. The service however was pretty underwhelming. I’d rang up about 4-5 beforehand and asked if the occasion could be made a little special with a little birthday dessert possibly and I’d asked for a bottle of New Zealand Sauvignon ready on the table for her and it was noted by the staff member on the phone and said she’d sort it. When we arrived, no wine on the table. No bother, we ordered one anyway. We ordered food at the same time as drinks as we know exactly what we want and have the same everytime. It was a bit of a shock though when the food turned up before our drinks and were both from hospitality ourselves so it was a bit of a shock and disappointment to us that this occurred. Once again brushing it off because of the nice occasion. There were no more issues then until we were offered dessert menus and we decided we were interested and would have a look. Our server then didn’t come back to us for at least 10-15 mins to take a dessert order. We’re not complainers by all means and we can understand what it can be like sometimes but all the little bits adding up just made us feel a bit disappointed and underwhelmed with the service but want to reiterate that the food was as good as...
Read moreI never usually leave bad reviews but this time unfortunately I feel I need to. We booked a table of 7 last night for my son’s 18th birthday. Obviously with it being a celebration I had high expectations. When we arrived we got the menus etc but our 8 year old was not given a children’s menu. We asked for one but it didn’t come so we ended up going to get one ourselves. Drinks came and all was ok. We were then left ages before we ordered our food, to the point where we had to ask. We then wanted to order drinks, no staff walked past at all so we had to go up to order. The wine came, 2 bottles which are not cheap. The lids were both left on the bottles, plonked on the table and not even asked if we wanted it pouring. The white bottle had no towel around it so it dripped everywhere when trying to pour it. The sharing starters came, which we were not given any side plates for so that was awkward and we did not see any staff to ask for them. The mains came ok, but there was a large delay between the child’s meal and the adults, so he has nearly eaten his by the time ours came out. At the end of the evening we were asked if we wanted desserts or the bill. Rude and unexpected.
From an establishment that is supposed to be prestigious and sets themselves above other restaurants, the service was totally disappointing, it lacked attention to detail and consideration. I expected to have excellent service as well as excellent food from somewhere that is not cheap to eat at. It’s not too much to ask really. So overall a celebration that should have been a great experience for my son was ruined by the service and that’s the main thing we remember from the evening, not the actual...
Read moreI visited whilst over on business in Burton-on-Trent, with colleagues.
My Husband & I ordered the 3-course meal for £34.95.
The cauliflower wings were nice, the medium rare rump steak I ordered was over cooked & was very well done. I swapped with my Husband as his Sirloin Steak was undercooked - half of it was medium rare, the other half was well done. The camembert mash was delicious, however, the vegetables were well undercooked & too hard to cut & the mangetout were burnt to a crisp; inedible.
A few of us at the table didn't understand the Wedge!? It was literally a 1/4 piece of a whole lettuce with parmesan cheese grated over it, which I didnt eat. It was totally pointless & didn't add, nor match, the dish I was eating at all.
The baked cheesecake was lovely & we took that home as we couldn't manage it.
Our young Waiter was absolutely brilliant, couldn't fault him! His fellow waiting staff should definitely take a leaf out of his book for sure! I dropped my steak knife on the floor & one of the other waiting staff picked it up & put it back on my table for me to use, as opposed to getting me a new one.
I enjoyed some of the food & some not so much. I'm not sure if I would eat there again if I am honest but if I did, it would be on a Wednesday or Thursday when the 3-course deal was on. I definitely wouldn't pay the...
