I've been really looking forward to trying Pebbles because I'm a massive fish lover and have been waiting for a specialist fish restaurant to open in Eastbourne for a long time. We had tried numerous times to visit the Bexhill restaurant but it was always busy.
It wasn't really what I anticipated. The menu is very limited which doesn't provide much choice. It's standard fish dishes which are already being offered in many restaurants across Eastbourne. I had the Crispy Salt and Chilli Squid for starters which was bland, in fact I've never had squid that was so tasteless. The Nam Jim that accompanied it was like brown water. I then had 1/2 Chilli and Garlic lobster with chips and salad. It was OK, lots of garlic butter saturated the plate and chips were swimming in it once I'd taken them out of the cup they came in. Personally it was too much and put me off of my meal a bit. The salad was 5 pieces of watercress and I felt this could have been made more interesting.
We decided to skip dessert and go elsewhere.
The restaurant is very small and has more of the vibe of a cafe. It was extremely hot and we had to move tables 3 times. The first table was in front of the open kitchen and the heat was too much. We then sat in front of a window and, due to the very sunny day, I was being cooked through the glass. Thankfully the restaurant was quiet and we moved to a table near the door where there was a mobile air con unit. There is seating outside with a canopy but at the time when we were eating only 1 table was in the shade and it was occupied.
There were 3 ladies serving who were all very polite.
Overall it's average and there are other restaurants providing very similar dishes which, I feel, are appetising.
Sadly we won't be returning which is a shame because I expected more. I think I have been spoiled by eating in many of the specialist fish restaurants in Brighton which Pebbles doesn't hold a candle to. However there is so much potential for Pebbles to be a...
Read moreThought I’d try somewhere completely new as I am seafood lover and fancied a nice dinner for myself to find myself massively disappointed in my meal today! (I’ve often bought seafood fresh from the seafood hut to tell the difference in freshness) the crab claws were incredibly dried out and discoloured… like day old chicken looks when it’s dried out … it had a horrible smell to it which I alerted staff on .. it hadn’t been cleaned and the prawns on ice were mushy and dirty which I let them know about aswell The oysters were ok but for what I paid for £29 -£4 off the bill isn’t enough off for me in all honesty respectfully.. im now currently dealing with nausea and upset stomach after this meal .. which isn’t okay at all the staff were very young had headphones in didn’t acknowledge me when I walked in.. the food was prepped way too fast and it clearly wasn’t handled correctly there was no manager on site either .. disappointed isn’t the word im fuming. I was polite and understanding to staff but the fact im now unwell isn’t acceptable at all with seafood … I’d like a refund if possible please Thankyou The fact that a staff member said oh maybe the crab had been sat for a day or so apologies .. isn’t enough because now im unwell and you could see it was spoiled ..
Also the pistachio cheesecake was nice but I’d personally used crushed pistachio within the mix rather than whole ones
I unfortunately didn’t get a clear image of the spoiled crab claws apologies I won’t be coming back unfortunately as I no longer trust the food preparation here from...
Read moreI recently visited Pebbles in Eastbourne and I can confidently say it was one of the best dining experiences I’ve ever had — and I’ve been to some very high-end places.
From the moment I stepped in as a solo diner, I was treated with genuine warmth and first-class service. The atmosphere was welcoming, yet refined, and I immediately felt at ease. The star of the show, however, was the manager Mollie — her leadership and energy radiated through the entire team. You could see how her communication and connection with the staff created a harmonious, happy environment that directly translated into the quality of service and food.
Speaking of food — absolutely incredible. I had oysters, and they were unbelievably fresh. The kitchen is open, so you get to watch your food being prepared right in front of you, which added so much to the experience. Everything was vibrant, beautifully presented, and clearly made with care. It’s rare to find a place where the food, service, and atmosphere all come together so seamlessly.
What really stood out was the way the staff were able to be themselves — unique, expressive, and still completely professional. It was refreshing to see a team that clearly loves what they do and takes pride in offering five-star service while being authentic.
Mollie, in particular, deserves special recognition. Her presence, leadership, and kindness left a lasting impression on me. The whole experience at Pebbles was uplifting and memorable. I cannot...
