Went here for a small 37th birthday celebration in the early evening and my partner and I were among the first to arrive. We placed a £40 order initially to get some food and a drink each and were intending to stay for a while and order more drinks after. Others who were attending arrived a while after us, placed orders and received their drinks quickly and then their food shortly after. We eventually received our food as well, and after another 5-10 minutes we had to go and ask about our drinks in order to eventually get them by the time nearly everyone else had already finished their meals. My partner's food was fine, but as I got to roughly ⅔ of the way through my dish I scooped up a forkful and found a 2-3 inch hair underneath stuck to the inside of the bowl so I was unable to finish my food. I couldn't even order anything else to eat instead because the idea of someone else's hair in my food makes me feel nauseous. We ended up leaving pretty soon after for obvious reasons and going elsewhere, which is a shame as £40 is a fair amount of money for food only one of us was able to eat. I've been to multiple other wetherspoons before and never had an issue (or at least not any that weren't quickly resolved) and the service has always been good and reasonably fast even when busy, so I'd probably recommend going to either Giddy Bridge or The Standing Order instead as they're not too far...
Read moreCompared to the typical Wetherspoons pub this fell short of my expectations. I had read previous reviews on here so I prepared myself and I feel some of the reviews were a bit harsh on this place.
Granted it’s one of the more run down wetherspoons I’ve been in but I wouldn’t avoid it. I ate in here and compared to other Wetherspoons the food wasn’t as good but it is still edible and I was not unwell after eating it.
On my visit the clientele was on the older side compared to most Wetherspoons which are normally filled with kids who can’t handle their drink so this was something that scored well in my eyes.
One of the more disappointing things was the lack of real ales on tap. Maybe they don’t sell well round here? But none the less it would have been good to see more on tap.
There isn’t really any what I would call decent pubs in this area so on that basis I would probably give this place another shot if I was back...
Read moreNice enough pub. Busy on a Friday night. Stank a bit like a dirty gym When I first walked in. When it came to ordering drinks/food at the bar the staff took their sweet ass time. They were friendly, but a bit hopeless and slow and weren't in any rush to serve you, despite the number of people there waiting patiently at the bar. When the food came out it was yummy, and it did come out fast. And oddly enough the ladies toilets (which are nice and clean) are harder to get to than the mens..(ladies upstairs) whats with that? Other random points: I love that they provide paper straws. The place looked pretty clean with plenty of staff on the floor to clear tables. It was nice and warm inside while it was -2 outside. Nothing to write home about though really. But it's observed cleanliness, location and food was good. Needs more in terms of atmosphere. Some music(live maybe?) would make this place...
