New Anarkali Indian Restaurant & Takeaway in East Molesey — Restaurant in Elmbridge

I rarely leave negative reviews, but my recent visit to this restaurant left me genuinely disappointed.

From the outset, communication with the staff was challenging, as their English was limited — which led to several misunderstandings during our meal. I ordered a coffee, and when it seemed incorrect, we politely inquired about it. The waiter insisted it was the right one. What followed, however, was what truly set the tone for the rest of the evening.

The manager approached our table and, instead of clarifying the issue respectfully, told us that if the coffee was served to me, then it is the right coffee — and that I should at least try it before asking any questions. This dismissive and condescending attitude was uncalled for. After that moment, I, as a woman, was essentially ignored for the remainder of our dinner. The staff spoke only to my companion and deliberately avoided any interaction with me.

It’s deeply disappointing to feel disregarded and belittled in a hospitality setting where the very essence of service should be warmth and attentiveness.

After following reviews on the local Facebook page, we decided to try New Anarkali. Portions are very good value for money. Starters were slightly disappointing, if I'm honest, poppadoms seemed stale and went soggy the minute they hit the chutneys. I had my usual started of king prawn puri , it was in a huge, huge amount of sweet sauce, I literally poured most of it away, there were 2 of the greasiest puris ive ever seen, the paper bag which they were folded in was soaked through and they were almost raw. We tried another starter chicken momo, sounded so nice tasted so bland and dry. However they did redeem themselves with the mains, the chicken was moist and very tender, with lots of flavour, rice was a bit of a let down with hardly any mushrooms in the mushrooms rice. To be fair not sure if this was a deliveroo issue or New Anarkali as always had great service and food when ordering direct from the restaurant (have been a loyal customer for over 20 years). Having said this a mark of a great restaurant is how they deal with “issues”. Tonight i received the wrong order and phoned new Anarkali and initially they were very apologetic and said they would replace it - all good! 10 minutes later a call saying it was nothing to do with them and all deliveries fault and therefore they would not replace the wrong order with the correct one. I paid for dishes I do not like so could not eat and paid for 4 more dishes I never received. Whilst appreciating it may have been a mistake on the part of deliveroo I am beyond disappointed that a restaurant I have both frequented and orders takeaways from for 20years did not just replace me with my correct...
