Honestly the worst food I ever seen in my life. Went here with my boyfriend the yesterday for a quick lunch before the races. I initially ordered a chicken salad thinking you can’t really go too wrong with a salad - seems you can. I was presented with a plate of mouldy lettuce, burnt chicken, no dressing and it was £17 so you’d expect something more decent. It was the worst salad I’d ever seen (I make better myself at home). I complained and asked if I could order something else, so I asked for fish and chips. Went and sat back down at the table for someone to come up and tell me there’s no fish and chips. So I asked for a fish finger sandwich, no fish finger sandwiches. Finally settled on a club sandwich (again, an easy thing to make you’d think). 15 minutes later I was presented with dry stale bread, with no butter, half a chicken nugget in the sandwich and bacon that looked like it has been incinerated. I complained again and they refunded me on the price of the salad we initially paid for and I just ate a plate of chips. We spent over £100 on drinks there and was a bit disappointed with the service. They kept saying they were busy but it wasn’t that busy, there were many tables free. To add to the terrible experience, when we got there I asked the waitress to clean the table as it was covered it cigarette ash. She wiped the ash off the table onto my cream dress (nice) and sprayed the table cleaning spray all over me (really nice). Avoid this place.

Absolutely the life of this little town, great atmosphere and the garden is surprisingly open and big for its location! Great selection of beers (slightly steeper in price for anyone from outside of London!), barman could be more friendly and talkative as he was slightly stand offish. However, wait staff were super friendly and attentive and that’s what brought our review up! The food! I used to be a chef myself and the mains we ordered were outstanding! I had the trout with mussel sauce and my boyfriend had the fish and chips, both were delicious, well cooked and perfectly presented! I wanted more but was full as the portion size was perfect too! Would definitely come back to try the rest of the menu! 😍

Visited again and boy it was a disappointment. We ordered fish and chips which was a tiny fish half the size of the previous one and Fillet which was a teeny tiny piece of meat with a thin layer of mashed peas “salad” and no carb. Pub was half empty but the waitress was in a rush and was making us uncomfortable. No longer recommend. Visited twice and both times got impressed with the food quality, professional manners of the staff and excellent choice of drinks. Will definitely go again and recommend it to anyone who enjoys good food. On the last visit I tried roast chicken and it was divine. BH had fish and chips and it was cooked to perfection.

We came here yesterday for Sunday lunch as three ladies who used to work together in the hospitality industry. We ordered 3 roast dinners, which in the past here had been lovely and a generous portion. It was busy and the restaurant looked very under staffed, but we ordered our food and drinks. The drinks arrived to the table after 10 minutes and our food arrived about 45 minutes’ later, which was a bit slow in my opinion. When we looked at our roast pork dinner, which 2 of us ordered it was the tiniest bit of edible pork and the rest of it was fat. The portions of everything were very small. The cabbage was in a wedge and was burnt and tasteless. We had 3 small roast potatoes, 2 carrots, but a decent sized Yorkshire pudding. The gravy was awful. My friend who had the vegetarian roast said that her gravy tasted heavily of tomatoes and our gravy tasted heavily of marmite. After the awful food we had we declined desserts, but told our waitress everything that was wrong with the meal. Although when I’d previously mentioned the small amount of edible pork and she just said “sorry about that!” with the bill she did speak to her Manager and we got our main courses refunded so only paid for the drinks we had and my friend did give the waitress a tip for sorting out the refund for us. I will not be back! It was also terribly expensive for these dismal roasts at...

What a shambles of a restaurant- I wont return again.

Just for context the restaurant was empty and over the 90 minute period we were there only one other table arrived.

We were a table of four, when we arrived we were greeted and sat at a broken table- the entire top flipped on and off. We had to ask twice to be moved; we were then sat at a wobbly table (it’s fine we were able to fix it with a folded menu). We were sat by the fire exit which was freezing cold and I can’t understand why as the entire restaurant was empty!

We ordered some olives and bread to start (took 30 minutes to arrive as well as our drinks) and we had to pick the olives out with our fingers as there were no cocktail sticks.

After 30 minutes of waiting to order our food I had to find a waiter and asked twice if we could order.

When we finally ordered we waited over an hour for our food which never arrived. I spoke to the manager who wasn’t apologetic or overly concerned. I kept going to check how long the food would be and each time I was told 2 minutes.

In the end after waiting a total of 90 minutes to eat we decided to leave and eat elsewhere.

I won’t be returning and would not...
