This is a review of 2 halves. Myself and a small group of friends make our annual pilgrimage to Esher for a show at Sandown. We normally stay at the Bear across the road but booked late this year and The Albert looked a brilliant alternative. ||Arrival was brilliant. Amazingly friendly staff and complimentary drink at the bar in arrival. Room was small but well equipped and nicely decorated.||Now I’ve seen prices today on booking.com of £60-70 for a room which I think is fair. Our rooms were over £100 per night. Then add on £9 a day for parking and breakfast not included. We bought breakfast in the pub yesterday which was nice but at 10.95 per person and 2 cars parked, our room rate is now at over £140 a night. ||Then there are the issues that you start to pick at at those sorts of rates. The shower was filthy and quite disgusting, the rest of the room was immaculate so this was sloppy, we had no remote for the tv (apparently it had been pinched - it wasn’t replaced during the 2 night stay) there was no bin in the room which was slightly bizarre and this morning we decided to take advantage of the inclusive ‘continental breakfast’. The accommodation is a separate building adjacent to the pub part fo the Albert. There is a communal kitchen. I went to make breakfast to find just 2 pieces of bread in the bread bin, no butter in the fridge, no coffee but plenty of tea. ||This is a nice hotel and I can’t stress enough the staff are brilliant. At this price however this hotel experience was sloppy and absolutely not value for money at the prices we...

Read moreWe held my mother’s wake at the Albert Arms after much family deliberation. We certainly made the right choice, hands down. Liam the Manager said it was a Community Pub so he wouldn’t charge us for the rooms for the wake. I found this very touching and Extremely generous.
We ordered food for 60 guests for which he did us proud. It was absolutely excellent. He even organised for my niece a separate gluten free burger to be absolutely sure it wasn’t in any way contaminated by the bread on the table. The jackfruit burger of which I was sceptical having had a couple of unpleasant ones was very Delicious. All the food was perfect and so many of our guests complimented it.
The staff were discreet and attentive. We were looked after right up to the end when they provided cardboard takeaway boxes as their food left over. Nothing was too much. Would I recommend this venue, and the catering, Absolutely! My advice is don’t look any further than the...
