Lovely restaurant. Had booked a table for two, these tables were quite close together however this was easily made up for by the quality and presentation of the food. I had looked on their website at the menu before hand and although we arrived whilst they were still serving the set menu we were not provided with this at the table, the food from the set menu is missing from their a la cart menu and I would therfore recommend checking the menu online first if you arrive before 1830 as it will give you more options if you are not provided with a copy of the set menu at the table; we were still able to order from it. The set menu is incredibly reasonably priced at £21 for three courses and the a la cart menu is also fairly reasonably priced.
I believe we may have had a waiter fairly new to the role as he appeared slightly nervous and his tablecloth cleaning interval was possibly slightly oddly timed, however we were presented with the specials etc and he was extremely polite. They were well staffed and all very well dressed. It was a Friday evening and they were incredibly busy, I would definitely recommend booking a table for peak times. We had taken a long time to order and to eat so were very politely asked if we would be happy to move to the bar after our dessert as the next table was expected to arrive. We were definitely not rushed or hastled at any point prior to or throughout our meal.
There is a small amount of parking on the premises, at the time I had arrived (1800) there were spaces. There is also on street parking either side of the restaurant.
I didn't see the outside area or the toilets so cannot comment on these but I would definitely visit The Ivy again and recommend this restaurant, especially for an occasion such as a treat night or first date whereby you want a little luxury without the extreme cost...
Read moreWe have been in the Ivy Guildford couple of times, and few of our friends said that we should try the one in Cobham. I decide that for my wife's birthday we can go there. They put us in a lovely little (too little) table. May because it was Friday, but the noise level was insane, it was like in a pub. We ordered Zucchini fritti (they wasn't that crispy and tasty as the one we had in Guildford), salt-crusted sourdough bread (it was good), duck liver parfait (I personaly didnt like it), the Ivy cure smoked salmon (it was delicious, and the bread was amazing). We also ordered a bottle of red wine(Malbec), which they tried to serve me in whats my opinion nota wine glass. We asked to change them, and after consultation with a couple of colleagues, they finally did. I've been in very nice restaurant in Bulgaria this summer, and the waiter told me that they have 13 different wine glasses and they serve specific wine with glass which is best for this wine - and thats amazing and what you might expect from the famous Ivy. For main we had fillet steak ( we ordered it medium, come well done - tasteless and dry) with wild mushroom souce ( it was sour and the mushrooms was like gum). Whenever the waiter was putting more wine in our glasses, there were wine drops on the table cloth, as we had bread, there was bread crumbs on the table which no one removes at any point. For dessert, we had creme brulee (the soft and not crunchy) and chocolate bombe (it doesn't melt - annoying). Overall for over £200 dinner for two + £50 for a taxi, it doesn't meet my expectations. I will never come back in this brasserie, and won't...
Read moreLovely atmosphere and wonderful service. The cheese soufflé is devine. But the vegetarian menu is now entirely vegan with the exception of the soufflé and none of the vegi mains tie in with the vegi starters. You go from Italian type starter to Asian/Indian/ Middle Eastern mains.
There is a good mix of vegi starters which include cheese dishes but the mains are all plant based, none of them have any particular appeal.
I’ve had two really bad main courses recently. Had a Moroccan stew which was awful, massive chunks of very undercooked root veg, and not appealing when everyone else was having Sunday roast with mac cheese sides I’ve got a choice of what pal choi salad or Moroccan tangine.
No option for a veggie Sunday roast so you have the choice of either Asian salad, panang curry, Moroccan tangine, plant burger or a bowl of grains. The page curry is something you might have once, it was ok but definitely wouldn’t order it twice. I’ve been avoiding the plant burger for a while now as it’s sounded so basic (cos lettuce/beef tomato patty vegan cheese), and as expected it was the one of worst vegi burger I’ve ever had. Zero though put into it.
The menu gives no detail about what the patty is made from. It’s dry and not very good. To be fair my husband had the meat burger and it was also very poor.
The Ivy used to have good vegi mains, the hallumi with grains and gravy was amazing, as was the truffle pasta. It would be good if they had one main with a high ticket item in it, like a burrata/mozzarella/goats cheese etc
Also the price of wine is extortionate at £17 a glass. Breakfast is much better...
