We had very high expectations of 50Nine - as a restaurant offering healthy and high quality food. Right up our street, as there are not many halal restaurants that offer quality healthy options.

ATMOSPHERE The atmosphere was lovely and cosy and the decor gave us rustic glam vibes. If you don't book in advanced and get seated within the booths, the other seating is a little tight, but I appreciate that there is perplex glass separating the tables. For two people, this seating is just right.

SERVICE The service was very friendly and attentive, which was great!

FOOD Here, we come to the big disappointment! First impressions of the menu was overwhelming. There are far too many options on the menu - from Indian street food and Middle Eastern to Italian and the health-conscious Acai bowls, smoothies etc. Lots to choose from, but when quantity dominates the quality of food, that is a no go!

We ordered a full English breakfast, toasted pesto and mozzarella sandwich, latte and rice bowl with chicken shish kebab.

THE GOOD

The toastie and latte went down a treat. Both were very good quality and enjoyable. The toastie was scrummy and packed with delicious Italian flavours of pesto, sundried tomato and mozzarella and the latte deep and aromatic.

WHAT COULD HAVE IMPROVED The English breakfast was very standard - nothing special. The sourdough is a nice touch, but everything else was pretty much average.

Now, onto the the rice bowl. It contained very dry microwaved rice, a sad mix of iceberg lettuce, cucumber and tomatoes (it didn't qualify as a salad, but one that you would expect from a takeaway not an eatery promising high quality food. There was no dressing, herbs, or other veg or salad leaves), there was far too much tzatziki for the amount of food in the bowl, spicy roast potatoes (a poor homage to batata harra) and 1 chicken shish kebab (which I thought would be middle-eastern chicken shish) really did not go well with the whole dish. It lacked proportion, harmony, flavour and was a very strange and incoherent dish. Too much yoghut and potatoes and not enough protein and quality veg.

The toastie came with a side of chips. We requested air-fried chips; however, they were a little too crisp for our liking and resembled standard fries. We imagined we would be receiving rustic, hand-cut chips for a place like this?

Would we come again? I love spending on high-quality, healthy cuisine, but unfortunately, I really did think the quality wasn't on the mark for the price you pay, especially for the English breakfast and rice bowl. Maybe we would return for a coffee, sandwich or smoothie, but definitely not for the meals we had.

As a cosy and stylish rustic-style cafe with a smaller specalised menu focusing on healthy, wholesome and high-quality food, it would be such a...

I never usually write reviews - however this was the worst food I have ever had.

We had ordered a Full English Breakfast with a Cappuccino, Eggs Royal With an Indian Masala Chai & a Hawaiian Chicken Burger with Water and an extra Indian Masala Tea.

The coffee and teas had come first - the tea was absolutely disgusting and we had to return this and swap it with a cappuccino which never arrived. The coffee was slightly warm - when asked when the food will arrive as many people would like to have their breakfast alongside their meal I was told that drinks come first ?

As an avid coffee drinker the coffee was horrible to be honest. The water I had asked for never arrived either.

Now, onto the food. I asked for my eggs to be well done - they came absolutely burnt, when I questioned this the waitress seemed like she didn’t understand what I was talking about. However, this wasn’t even the worst bit ! I tasted the spinach - this was absolutely horrible - I thought I was going crazy so I asked my sister to taste it who also spat it out immediately. I then decided to try the mushrooms which the top few were fine but then continue to eat a third/fourth mushroom I had immediately spat it out again, both were overloaded with salt and tasted terrible.

My 7 year old nephews food was okay and edible but my sisters food was also terrible.

The staff seemed to not care - however the manager was quite good and understanding and also tasted the spinach and mushroom and said it wasn’t right and up to standard and also spat it out.

Perhaps it was a one off - however I won’t be returning as the food quality and taste was...

What a disgrace of an eating establishment! Where do I start, walk in and the place had a awfull smell couldn't quite make it out, we just thought the smell would Dissipate, unfortunately not. Service was so poor and clearly under staffed. I had a female who wouldnt know customer service if she was slapped with it! Drinks took around 15 minutes to arrive, to have dirty glasses handed to us, the wait for the food was long and once the food was delivered is was very dismal! Chicken was pink on the inside and salad was brown. Food clearly isn't fresh and not prepared dayily. We didn't want to raise any of these issues with the staff 1. They didn't seem to be interested in the customers, and seems to be more interested in chatting amongst themselves. 2. The Calibre of staff was very poor and knew if I had of complained that I would of been made out to be wrong. Enough of the over priced cruel and inadequate customer. I had the unfortunate experience of using the lavatory 🤢 I don't think they have been cleaned in a long time and the smell I mentioned earlier in my review was clearly coming from the bathroom. I can honestly say I would never return to this restaurant again, it's in dier need of a deep clean and the staff clearly need to go on a customer service course! If I could give this place a 0 I would have! This is the reason luton is failing to bring in outside customers and we have to travel to mk ect for decent food and customer sevice.

Please do not consider this restaurant, not even to pop in and use the loo 🤮🤮🤮

Would of gotten better food and customer service at Macdonald's, and that's...

Good value, friendly cafe for breakfast and brunch (not tried dinner yet). Around ten tables inside so book for peak times, several customers were turned away. Disappointing for them but shows it's a popular venue. Very good coffee! Well made, perfect temperature, mellow flavour. I enjoyed a full English breakfast in a naan, a neat little twist that filled me up for hours! No pork served, the chicken sausages and turkey rashers were perfectly good. Very good value at less than £10. Plenty of vegan and veggie options too. Luton is regrettably short of this type of neat, well decorated and decent quality venues. This cafe virtually next to the train station shows there's a market for more. In the meantime, every strength to 50Nine, I'll definitely be back.

Once again the reviews don’t lie. I was thoroughly impressed by our delicious meals in a charming, warm and inviting setting. The food was spot on. Freshly made, scrumptious and beautifully presented. We ordered a French Omelette Wrap, Peanut Butter Toast, Marvin Mango Smoothie and 2 Chai Lattes (yes the Chai Lattes were so creamy that I could have drank a bucket load!). The cinnamon on the top is a genius idea. The portions are huge so definitely worth the money. Outstanding service from Yash (who was very patient with my (indecisiveness). Yash even returned my purse that I had dropped. What a gentleman. Needless to say I am looking forward to my return so I can sample other items on the menu. Well done guys!
