My family and I had a delicious 4 course banquet here and we were thoroughly impressed. I am half Italian and have spent most of my summers in Alghero, Sardinia, where my dad is from. We came here because the name caught my attention and because we saw a few classic Sardinian dishes on the menu. Our host was instantly friendly and inviting and was quick to have our drinks on the table. We had a Sardinian cannonau and vermintino. She also brought us bread, butter and Sardinian crispbread with a delicious homemade tapenade Most of us had the fregola soup to start, the portion was large and the soup was perfect, it reminded me of the fish soups I have had in alghero and the fregola was cooked perfectly, my girlfriend has the prawns and again she got loads of them, all peeled and butterflied in a perfectly rich sauce. Our pasta course followed and I went for the gnochetti sarda with Italian sausage. It was again a perfect meal for me. My girlfriend had the penne ragu and even the bolognese was deliciously earthy. For main course I had the veal Marsala which again was delicious and it’s nice to see veal in an Italian restaurant as it is usually forgotten here in England. All the sides were delicious but at this point the food had defeated us Finally a few of us were able to force ourselves to order dessert I had the nougat semifreddo which was perfectly light and finished the meal of beautifully even though I was already stuffed. We also tried the tiramisu which was the most coffee intense Tiramisu I’ve had, very flavoursome. We capped all of this off with an ice cold glass of red mirto as a digestif All in all this was the most authentic italian I have had in a long long time in England and the only authentic Sardinian. Thoroughly recommend seeking this restaurant out if you are in or even near Poole for the evening

I enjoyed to go to Alghero restaurant. We decided yesterday and was the best idea we got. As starter I decided to take prosciutto e melone and onestly the combination was perfect ang my husband sardines graten. Main course the delicious spaghetti with seafood and toscani 's sausages. The atmosphere is very quite and the staff is completely professional. I will back soon... Absolutely.

The atmosphere is a little tired but the service was friendly and efficient. The portions are huge. We went for the smaller portion option which they offer. It is a little cheaper than the standard portion but still plenty. The food was well prepared and presented. Plenty of different pasta, meat and fish dishes but no pizza. The location is a little difficult in terms of parking.

The Restaurant Alghero must surely rank as Poole's hidden treasure. A one-off visit has resulted in this becoming my go-to place to eat, which considering I live in Hampshire is no mean feat.

Let's start with the restaurant itself. Nothing from the outside gives away what a jewel lies within. Small enough to be intimate yet big enough not to seem crowded, it has that ambience that immediately makes you feel comfortable.

The staff. Friendly, helpful and accommodating from the owner to the waiting staff, all are there to help you enjoy your evening, not just to deliver the food.

The food. Ah, the food. An varied menu full of prime Italian food. Your can have hot or cold starters depending on your mood before moving onto the mains. And what a choice. I seem to be working my way through the menu and have yet to be disappointed in anything I've tried. The portions are generous, to say the least and have, so far, all been perfectly cooked and delicious.

The deserts. Hmmm, I rarely have room for one if I have a starter, so it's a difficult choice between which 2 courses to go for. The Tiramisu is light and flavoursome and the almond and chocolate cake is dark, rich and heavy. Those are the only 2 I've tried but I doubt anything else could be more delicious.

So, I can heartily recommend this hidden gem; it scores so well across the board and is remarkably inexpensive. I would suggest you have the Veal....no, the Sea Bass...wait, have the seafood risotto...or the Fillet steak....no, have what takes your fancy, I'm sure...
