Bengal Kitchen — Restaurant in England

We came from Manchester and seen reviews online but still asked locals where's the best Indian restaurant in town. I didn't go to others as no need to, we didn't have a booking but bengal squeezed to of us in on a Fri night at 6pm when they were getting nearly full already & only opened at 5pm, Service was so fast & friendly. The lads couldn't do enough for us. And now the best bit.. The food, I've practically lived in the curry Mile in Manchester with 50+ Indian restaurants and this could 100% be up there with the best. The food & every taste was really nice, honestly I love my curry's and always say curry's outside Manchester are not great. This is, the tastes are 5star. I've tried to put my name on this but Google keeps putting Google user. My name is John Prendergast and I stand by the following statement. I don't know where the friendly staff ( other reviewers were talking about) were. They certainly weren't in evidence tonight!. The staff were taciturn and unhelpful. The waiter (after being asked 3 times for the bill) simply said "at the bar". On reaching the bar, he proceeded to use a portable card machine! He also tried to take my phone off me to do contactless. He couldn't print a receipt, all the while without a friendly word or expression. The food was ok but nothing special. Overall very disappointing considering the volume of good reviews and professional appearance of the website and the place itself. Collected my order on a quiet Wednesday night so very little excuse for the poor quality of some of the most basic aspects.

Naan bread was tough and definitely not freshly made to order. Chutneys clearly watered down and ran straight off the poppadom. (Even more frustrating considering the £2.50 charge) Mixed appetiser was okay but lacked any real flavour with a lot of battered/fried items. Curry and rice were pleasant with plenty of meat.
