Stopped off at Thirsk while touring in the Yorkshire Dales, and had a late lunch at this welcoming little café in the marketplace. It was very busy when I arrived, but I managed to get a small table inside. The café seems very popular with cyclists, and the walls are covered with cycling memorabilia as well as nice artwork. There's a clean toilet behind the counter. The staff were very friendly and service was quick. The menu offered a good choice of breakfasts, sandwiches, toasties and lunchtime specials. There was a wide selection of speciality teas, and you can also get beer and wine here. I ordered a homemade vegetable quiche with salad and a tasty homemade coleslaw. The quiche was delicious and piping hot, and the salad, with radishes and beetroot as well as the usual tomato and greens, was crisp and fresh. Generous portions. The pot of good Yorkshire tea was served with a jug of hot water. There were also mugs, tea towels, preserves and other gifts for sale. A very satisfying lunch experience! Would definitely come here again.

This is obviously a very popular cafe in the centre of Thirsk; we were lucky to get seating near the counter and it was full whilst we were there. There is also a small amount of seating outside with great views of the Market Place. It’s quite a quirky place with lots of memorabilia linked to cycling. Service was reasonably quick. I had a piece of gluten free lemon drizzle cake which was excellent; was pleased to see that it was clearly marked and under a separate cake dome. My husband had coffee and a very large scone which he enjoyed.

Overall a very good experience, the staff are ok but could be a little more friendly, maybe having an off day when we visited ? Food was good, well cooked and enough to fill a gap. Parking is all around if you can manage to get a space and wheelchair access is quite easy. Recommended Only dropped points due to staff not too friendly that morning when we passed through.

I am shocked that they have the audacity to promote their breakfasts as "award winning." They are anything but award winning, and extremely overpriced. Their breakfasts include one sausage, cut in half, and tinned tomatoes - what a joke. This breakfast was over £12, and it shouldn't have been priced at more than £8 - a hungover teenager could have done a better job at making it. I've given the food one star, for it was at least edible.

Coffee was poor quality. Staff knowledge is poor - they didn't know what a macchiato was when another customer tried to order one.The saucers were absolutely filthy that our coffee was served on. They had one member of staff dedicated to making coffees, and they took a surprisingly long time to get to us.

Inside is extremely cramped. When staff get irritated with customers, they let off steam to one another at the counter, in earshot and view of the whole indoor seating area. Let off steam by all means - but not in front of customers. That said, the staff looked annoyed and tense all the time, and we were never checked on to see if we were okay.

We went on a Sunday morning, and there was one particular member of staff flying around attempting to do the majority of the work, but you could tell they were stressed and they, understandably, couldn't do everything. They had a young member of staff who spent the majority of their time stood at the till, staring off into the distance - you wouldn't have noticed if this person wasn't there. This meant tables were not wiped down and efficient service was not provided. We were on a very small table in the centre of the room, and at a quality establishment with decently trained staff, they would have kept their eye on us, and removed things from our table as we went, to give us more space. There were ample members of staff for a busy Sunday morning, and the whole operation could have ran much smoother.

At the end of our visit, my husband went to the counter to pay. He waited patiently whilst the person at the coffee machine ignored him - she could have said hi/ be with you in a moment, whilst still working. Eventually, without looking up, she muttered that she'd be with him in a second.

We should have gone to Wetherspoons, across the square. We could have got a cheaper breakfast, with hash browns, at the same, if not...
