Looked with interest at the menu here ,and decided to visit to try the Sunday Roast . Perfect location in the town of Alnwick ( Stunning Town ). Our host , Sophie seated us as we entered ( we chose to eat at 1200hrs ). Sophie was friendly , courteous and cheerful . We chose two roast beef Sunday lunch , they came freshly prepared and piping hot . Portion size was excellent, and food was delicious. Beef was perfect , vegetables were also cooked to perfection, and the request for extra gravy was quickly bought to our table. Dog friendly, which is a +plus , great location and atmosphere. Food and service fantastic- would highly recommend it . Booking may be advised as it did get busy after we arrived . Stayed over night in June ( Thank you to Poppy for her super check In service ) , and Sam for her great Housekeeping. The rooms are Clean, and airy - good size bathroom and comfy bed . Excellent value for money and would recommend. Management may want to consider replacing all carpets on stairs to improve the overall aesthetic of the place .

Decent pub with a good menu...lots of interesting choices and freshly sourced local ingredients. Very nice atmosphere on a weekday afternoon, but I'd expect a totally different feeling on any evening visit? Would have given 5* but for someone allowing 2 bloody barking dogs into a place that serves food. UPDATE: This place is in DIRE need of an emergency makeover. The seating area is disgusting, with dirty, stained and torn upholstery. They expect you to eat off of sticky tables, the toilets are abysmal, there are too many dogs and some of the regulars appear to be extras on Crimewatch. Best avoided. 2* deducted.

Nice pub. Has an ā€œOlde worldeā€ feel about. More room inside than the front suggests as it goes right back. Food was excellent. We just had a light lunch in the form of a sandwich but I have to say it was one of the best ham sandwiches i’ve had. Unfortunately, only 4 stars due to the terrible coffee as, in contrast to the food, it was awful! Being weak, bitter and boiling hot. But, I guess if you want decent coffee, go to a coffeehouse!! Having said that I would definitely go again. I’d just have a beer instead!!

A friend and I booked two rooms. They were fine. Room 1 was small but had a great view of the castle; Room 3 was spacious, had an enormous jacuzzi bath and faced the street. Both had smallish double beds and were fine for singles but perhaps not for a couple. Both were clean (although the stair carpet was pretty grimy). There were tea/coffee making facilities. ||There was no breakfast but a note in the room suggested going to their sister establishment, Pig in Muck. This wasn't much use as it didn't open until 11am by which time we would like to have breakfasted and have started the day's sightseeing. Grannie's cafe a few doors away was perfect though; it opens at 9am.||Beware! We arrived on a Sunday to find the kitchen closed at 4pm. There are few options for dinner in Alnwick on a Sunday night. We went to The Dirty Bottles.||The odd part is that we were the only people in the pub during the night, until staff arrived just before 9am the next morning. Before leaving, the staff turn off all the lights! Apparently the lights were a mistake and there should have been one on the stairs but although a member of staff tried to fix it, it didn't happen. There was no natural light; it was pitch black. I had to use my phone light. ||I'm not sure how safe I'd feel about, say, my daughter staying there on her own with a stranger in one of the other rooms. It felt very quiet and isolated.||My room was serviced the first of three nights but not thereafter so the bottled water wasn't replaced or the bed made/bin emptied.||The staff we met were charming and friendly but overall it was an...

Had a really bad vegan option experience here today. The pub itself is in a great location, it's very quirky and traditional. It's often quite difficult when eating out with family to find a place that has some decent vegan options. Having looked at the menu, there seemed to be a few decent vegan options for us to try. My sister had the chicken and mango sandwich, which she said was tasty. I had the only vegan sandwich option, which was allegedly "pulled BBQ Jack fruit" . It was cold,it wasn't pulled at all, more likely tipped out of the tin and smothered in a cheap BBQ sauce. It was awful. It was served on the same bread everyone else's sandwiches were served on,which has now sent alarm bells ringing, and it came with fries and coleslaw, which I didn't eat,as I just didn't trust it was vegan. The salad just looked limp and very sad. Having made pulled jackfruit at home , I know for sure this had definitely not been pulled. If you offer a vegan option, then at least make the effort, make sure everything on the plate is 100% vegan, and stop charging the same price as you do for the meat and fish options. It's simply outrageous that something that clearly took little effort or passion to create is the same price as every regular sandwich. Really wished we tried Dirty Bottle instead. Nothing worse than eating complete rubbish when you're famished. No vegan pale ale either !!!How...

AVOID THIS ACCOMODATION. The accomodation in this place is a disgrace. I would NOT recommend booking here. Other reviews on various websites are totally false and misleading. I question if real guests have written these. The whole place is filthy and unsanitary. I couldn’t put my bare feet on the carpets as they were so dirty. The bathroom is the worst I have ever seen in accomodation world wide. Including, large holes in the bath panel and some kind of vile set up with all in one bath/shower with (mould everywhere). We didn’t get to use the bathroom as we had no HOT WATER. We alerted the manager within hours of our arrival where we were told that they couldn’t get a plumber for at least a week and that we would be reimbursed for one night out of our two night stay. We had to find alternative accommodation for that night which was highly stressful given the circumstances. No surprises that we are still waiting for our refund!! The manager took our details and lied to our faces. Don’t be fooled and misled as we were by older reviews/reviewers. This place should be condemned as unfit for human habitation. They should be absolutely ashamed of themselves. WORST accomodation...
