This place is like a tardis inside, with the shop on two floors, & the restaurant seating on two floors & toilets on the top floor. Definitely not easy to get about if you have difficulty in mobilising or in a wheel chair.
Unfortunately the high chair was absolutely dirty, which required scrubbing with spray & a cloth, before putting our daughter in.
For drinks we chose to go for a flat white & a hot chocolate. Both tasted great, definitely some of the best drinks hot drinks we have had recently.
Whilst waiting for food, a lovely member of the public sat on a nearby table, but unfortunately a rude member of staff came to move her, due to her not noticing the sign upstairs to be seated, but to be fair to her I didn’t even notice this, so maybe the sign could we more prominent instead of it blending in with the surroundings!
For food, we had 5 Spice Butternut Squash, Walnut Quiche & a Turkey, Cranberry & Brie Sandwich, both tasted great, definitely one of the best quiches Ive had.
One of thing to improve is the sound coming from the downstairs pot wash/staff area, as we heard staff having a moan about...
Read moreWhat a great find, a genuine old tea and coffee house, evidently a merchant’s house from way back. The shop with its enormous selection of teas and coffees is what you come in to first, with more gifts and merchandise up a few stairs out the back. Then if you’re lucky enough to get a table in the cafe, that’s up more stairs but well worth the climb for those of us who can make it. The building itself is a real feature, with creaking old patched together timber floors and timber beams. It meanders upwards for about three or four storeys. If only the building could speak, there would be tales to tell from over the centuries! We stopped for afternoon tea and had a selection of decaf tea, matcha, Americano coffee and hot chocolate with a couple of pastries from the display case in the shop. Best almond croissant ever, plump and soft with delicious filling. Heartily recommended for stocking up on teas and coffees and a repast to enliven the traveller!

Split over three floors this building/company originally started in the early 1900s this tea 'shop' still mixes it's own blends of tea by hand and boy do they have some selection. They even still use the original tea caddies and barrels! The building has quite some charm with its original warped and grooved wood flooring that might make going above the ground floor for anyone with walking disabilities an possible issue.
To illustrate the skill I am talking about, the server asked what kind of tea I would like. I asked for lady grey, however as this is a twinings tea they did not carry it. Instead she expertly hand mixed two different teas to make a blend that was nearly indistinguishable from the real thing!
It is also coffee house too, but mainly tea, so if you are in Kendle and want to try tea exactly how it should be, give this place a visit you will not be...
