I recently visited this pub with my family to celebrate my birthday. Things started off well â the staff were welcoming, especially Carlos, who was absolutely fantastic. His kindness and professionalism really stood out, and itâs clear he has a real gift for hospitality.
Unfortunately, the night took a very unexpected and disturbing turn. Toward the end of the evening, we encountered the landlady, Lily, who asked my dad to pour the last few sips of his pint into a plastic cup. He politely responded that he would finish quickly and then comply. Rather than accepting this calmly, Lily took offense and became aggressively confrontational.
Her behaviour was deeply concerning â what began as a seemingly minor issue escalated unnecessarily. When I attempted to speak with her directly to de-escalate the situation, she became physically aggressive, grabbing my mum by the chest and pushing her, and then grabbing my sister. This is completely unacceptable behaviour, especially from someone in charge of a public establishment.
Whatâs even more troubling is that despite numerous other negative reviews about her conduct, Lily continues to operate with a license. Her actions have been reported to the police, and I sincerely hope this is taken seriously. I also feel terrible for the staff â even they privately admitted sheâs a nightmare to work under.
Needless to say, we wonât be returning, and I strongly caution others before visiting. A pub should be a safe, welcoming space. Unfortunately, this was...
Read moreFrom the moment I walked into the Broad Street Tavern, I knew I was in for something special. Nestled in the heart of Wokingham, this pub is a gem that stands out for its incredible ambiance and exceptional service. The star of the show is undoubtedly Lilly, the landlady. Her knack for making customers feel right at home is unmatched. She greets everyone with a warm smile and makes sure every visit is memorable.
But what truly sets this tavern apart are their homemade pizzas. Made right in the beer garden, it's a unique touch to have your pizza being cooked to perfection in an outdoor setting. The combination of fresh ingredients, and the ambient enviromemt makes for an experience you will thoroughly enjoy.
Whether you're a local or just passing through Wokingham, the Broad Street Tavern is a must-visit. It's not just a pub; it's a place where memories are made, thanks in no small part to the wonderful Lilly and her team. Don't miss out on this...
Read moreLandlady Lili has introduced a new line of pies - loads of different options, and gluten-free versions are coming soon, I'm told. I've tried the steak and mushroom in a peppercorn sauce pie, and can thoroughly recommend. The pastry-to-filling ratio was just right for me, the pastry was nicely cooked and just the right thickness, the steak was tender and fatless, and the peppercorn sauce was subtle but noticeably peppercorn. It came with a jug of gravy which the pie itself didn't need, but which was perfect on the included vegetables and mash (or chips). The only problem was choosing which pie to have in the first place! Thank you BST!
P.S. I've had to edit an earlier review (below) because it seems Google doesn't allow two separate reviews for the same place, even if written a year apart!
