Very new hotel which is fully air conditioned and has light rooms with big windows. Please don't let this review put you off - this is just an experience we had which is likely not representative of the one the majority of people will have.
Upon arrival we were greeted by friendly staff who explained parking to us. The machine in the hotel wasn't working and needed to walk back to the car park to pay. Would recommend paying first at the car park as there is no difference with the machines (despite what the website says). When entering our room, we were pleasantly surprised by how spacious the room felt. Unfortunately there was a very unpleasant odour (sick maybe) we put this down to the fact the hotel was so new and just the smell of glue and it did seem to fade after being in the room for some time. The TV was also unbranded rather than the usual Samsung TVs that Premier Inns have - this meant no screen mirroring and the sound/picture quality was quite poor.
Our first night at the hotel was okay and the only issues were caused by other guests at the hotel - which the hotel has no control over and isn't thier fault. We woke up to sandwiches thrown around the corridor and wrappers right outside our door. This wasn't very disruptive and the mess was soon cleared up by staff. It does sound like others had a far more disruptive night than us. Also the air con seemed to have an error at the same time every night (look out for a green flashing light on the thermostat) which caused it to stop working and the room to get quite warm although it sounded like it was working.
Breakfast was a bit disappointing it is now £9.50 and the buffet has reopened with little in the way of COVID-19 measures. There was also very little food left when we went at about 9 o'clock and felt we wanted a lot of food that just wasn't there.
That morning there was also a fire alarm, the premier Inn staff were very efficient and knew exactly what to do - they made sure that every got out in just a few minutes. The alarm was caused by guests smoking in their rooms and pressing the fire button in reception - we were offered a free coffee and felt that the staff handled the situation exceptionally. Especially considering the unruly guests they had to deal with that caused the ordeal. The staff were incredibly apologetic even though the situation was outside of their control.
The second night was almost faultless - slept very well after the before mentioned guests left. The air con did error again and needed resetting but other than that no issues at all - what I have come to expect from Premier Inns.
We did notice the bath began leaking too which we hadn't noticed previously causing a puddle to form in the bathroom. We tried mopping it up but it would come back every time. Not a major issue by any means but something that was just a bit annoying.
We chose to not have breakfast again on the second morning and left at 12 feeling ready for the day ahead.
You might think that all of this would warrant a lower star rating than I have awarded this hotel. However, I believe that the fact we still enjoyed our stay here is a testament to the staff and the brand itself. We still enjoyed our stay very much and would return - we would hope to sleep better next time though. I am also sure that if we complained most of the issues mentioned would have been fixed...
Read moreAfters years of going back home and visiting the UK - this was the best stay ever.
We’ve stayed in all sorts of locations for our visits back to the UK to see family, and it can be stressful enough even without a home-base that isn’t up to standard.
But the Premier Inn at Wokingham was by far the best home-base possible. And we were desperate to get back after having travelled elsewhere in the country for a week.
The beds were comfortable, the bathroom facilities were pristine and we had the choice of running a warm bath to combat the bitter December cold each night.
Every morning we were greeted by the most lovely staff members, and could fill-up on the most well-loved and well-missed classic Continental English Breakfast.
We got to see the same friendly faces at dinner, and could share a laugh or chat about our respective days.
We stayed almost a month at the Premier Inn at Wokingham and we’re already planning to come again in 2025.
Travelling as a group of three, across two rooms - we had no issues if we accidentally left a card behind, or needed some fresh amenities.
The most special thanks to Georgios who always took the time to chat and share a laugh, making sure we had all we needed each day - and Claudio and the other lovely team members. We couldn’t help but leave a few treats for the team to thank them for such a wonderful stay.
It’s very rare to sincerely miss the home-base you use when travelling, as that’s all it is - but after staying here and getting to know such lovely staff, it was so much more. We really will miss them their hospitality, care and lovely nature.
We do hope to see them soon, and wish them...
Read moreI will start off by saying, the staff are very polite and courteous. However, this doesn’t take back the point of the decline in quality of the hotel overall. I’m not sure if I stayed at a bad time or if this is that the chain thinks is acceptable, but here we go. Room; beds are alright, no fridges unlike Travel Lodge, so no where to store drinks for the evening, my bathroom spring a leak in the shower, I reported it to reception and it didn’t get fixed, I ask for my room to be cleaned and fresh towels…did it happen, no. TV was lackluster, and before you ask about streaming from my laptop, yes it’s possible, but I’ll get onto that later. Hotel itself; very slow check in as staff are running around, not being able to order room service…from the room…that’s the whole point isn’t it? Wi-Fi is dreadful, 1mb per second…didn’t think that still existed. Fast Wi-Fi was £5 an hour, unless I read it wrong, referring back to the streaming. Also, there is NO signal, 1 bar of 4G on EE and if you’re walking through the hotel…good luck. The staff though were their saving grace, very accommodating and friendly. Breakfast was bog standard, nothing special. This goes to beg the question, is this really the standard of our hotel industry now? I remember when there were phones in rooms where you could call for room service, Wi-Fi was good and reliable, the hotels were well maintained and there were fridges in rooms. Sorry Premier Inn, but not even Lenny Henry could...
