Cafe India — Restaurant in England

We went to cafe India for my girlfriends 18th birthday. We booked a table for 9 in advanced and upon arrival the tables wernt even the right position! We had to wait 20 minute for them to set up the tables and set them for 9 people. After seating we then waited 40 minutes to be served drinks! A further 15 minutes later they finnally came back to us and took out orders. Unfortunatley for my friend she was feeling ill so she was planning on just having a starter as it wpuld of just been a waste of food and money. She was told by the owner that she couldnt do thism she had to order or leave even though the other 8 of had ordered in full. She then went to say this was because they dont serve drinks and they only make money from the food which i understand but she was then further told off for bringing a bottle of water with her as she was feeling faint! My first meal in Cafe India as we normally go to The Raj however it was a birthday meal and not my choice. We arrived at 8pm and was ushered to our table and in typical fashion were offered popadoms and pickles & the Resturant was pretty full. 9.00pm came and went and so had other diners but no one had approached us for our order so we had to get the young waitresses attention. Order taken at around 9.10pm with the restaurant now at best 3/4 full however our starters didn't arrive until 10.20pm followed by mains at 10.45pm! Food was good apart from a dubious looking hair in a friends tandoori mixed grill which we were told was a 'bristle' from the basting brush?

The reason I've given this a 5 star all round is because from the service to the multicultural South Asian foods to the general atmosphere of the restaurant, everything isn't just good, it's excellent. There are extremely welcoming staff who will seat you quickly, a nice, traditional South Asian restaurant setting topped with the main thing that people come here for, the world class food.
