The Raj Restaurant — Restaurant in England

Very very disappointing tbh.. We're staying across the road and it looks nice. Decided to try it out last night but my bro and I weren't that hungry.

We thought we'd simply share a starter and a main and a dessert.. Simple as..

The waiter couldn't be understood as we tried to order drinks.. I asked what beers they had and he hadn't the foggiest.. Was wearing a mask, so we gave him a pass.

Ordered a couple of Pops, as ya do..

Then when it came to order the main... Chicken Jalfrezi with rice and garlic naan, we were told it wouldn't be enough for 2 people..

I'd recently eaten an edible ( medical reasons 😉) ..so was pretty chilled when he came back and said they could make a big one.. I just didn't wanna argue but guys.. THE CUSTOMER IS ALWAYS RIGHT...

When they brought out the main meal, the chicken was lamb...

We complained politely..

The waiter then said... And I still can't believe it.. " oh don't worry.. We'll only charge you for chicken"

We wanted chicken for a reason... We LIKE chicken...

"shall I make a new one"? He asked..

We said yes but then got worried it'll take too long and would they put as much care into a second curry knowing they'd fluffed the order.. If ya know what I mean 😉😉😉😜😜😜

We told them we'd stick with the lamb as didn't wanna stay long..

Then another waiter came a completely wiped down our table whilst we were chatting after the main course..

Couldn't even wait till we'd gone...

Food was quite tasty but we were put off by the circus of untrained staff..

We should have been comped in a proper...

Tried to order online, however once we got to payment screen it came up with an error message saying the order could not be processed and therefore payment had failed. So we ordered from another restaurant, only to find that ‘The Raj’ had in fact taken the money out of the account, we called the restaurant to inform them of the error on the website and to cancel the order (after all we had now ordered from somewhere else, due to the error message we had recieved) only to have a gentlemen answer the phone very rudely, and argue with us that there wasn’t a problem with his website and then try to give us a sob story after we had explained the situation to him, and yet he still denied there being a problem! Although common sense would make it obvious that if there wasn’t a problem while ordering, we would not have felt the need to have order from somewhere else! Due to this experience alone, I will NOT be ordering from this restaurant again, and I most certainly will NOT be recommending to family...

The first average meal that we've eaten here. All previously meals eaten here were fantastic. We took friends (a party of 4 people) and the experience was lacking. The food was ok, but nothing special. We didn't order any starters, we had 4 poppodoms, 4 main meals, 2 rice and 4 naan.

We were expecting the high quality, full of flavour, superb service that we had been accustomed to. The poppodoms were nice. Crisp and not greasy with the regular selection of chutneys which were all nice, fresh and tasty.

Unfortunately, the main meals were largely bland and uninspired. Nothing particularly stood out that was particular bad, just bland meals. We each had a naan which was tasty.

Service-wise, everybody was polite, friendly and attentive. After the poppodoms and main course, a waiter brushed the table of any crumbs etc. We weren't particularly messy and thought that this was a little strange not to wait until we had left.

We will likely visit again, hoping that this drop in taste...
