1st time at the Royal Oak. Stayed here to visit the town and cathedral on our 3 week whirl wind tour of England.
1st, the pub. I can not say enough how delicious the food was. My picky eater gave it 5 stars. He had the dirty burger. I split some appetizers with my beloved so he could have treacle pudding. Everything was amazing. The staff were all so kind and patient. The atmosphere was great. Old English charm.
Next, the room. We stayed in room 6. It was a lot of stairs to climb but worth it. The veiw was adorable. The view out the back stairs was incredible. Just like in the movies. You could see rooftops and then the cathedral. The bed was very low but super comfortable. Best night's sleep I've had this whole trip. No ghosties keeping me up either. The shower worked great. Nice and hot and powerful. There was even a small but very high-powered fan in the closet, which I need to sleep.
Lastly, the parking. Parking in the square was only an hour. Luckily, the hotel has some hidden parking out back with a chicken guarding it. I absolutely loved this experience and will definitely stay here again if given the opportunity. Thank you Royal Oak for making our one night...
Read moreI chose the Royal Oak for a cousins reunion based solely on its good Tripadvisor scores, as I’m not familiar with the eateries in Ripon. The lunchtime food we were served was excellent and very good value for money. Two of our party of six had the gammon egg and chips both agreed it was first class. Two of us had a toasted Croque Monsieur sandwich with fries and a fried egg. Again, we thought the quality quantity and price was excellent. My brother-in-law’s fishfinger sandwich had three decent-sized, home-fried goujons of fish, rather than the commercially made fishfingers he’d encountered elsewhere - a real treat. |Some of us still had room for desserts and my husband said his sticky toffee pudding was one of the best he’s ever had while both my sisters thought their ice creams were delicious. We all wish we lived nearer Ripon and could eat...
Read moreThe breakfast was very good with plenty of choice from a menu. All the staff we came across were very friendly and pleasant. They also did evening meals which were above average with a good selection. They did a happy hour at the bar which finished at 6.30. However, it was unclear what the prices were and how much you were saving?|The room was ok but a bit below standard as the last makeover (probably in the 90's) and had not been touched since. The was flaky paint and the carpets had not been vacuumed. The bathroom was clean. There was plenty of free tea and coffee in the room.|We did not ask to use the carpark but used the back of Sainsburys a short distance away which worked out cheaper as we were out and about for most of the day and you only paid till 6 pm.|The bedrooms could do with a coat of paint and the manager needs to improve...
