I have reviewed Caffe Nero in Hanley before now. I've found it to be superior in comparison to the Derby coffee shop. Any version of anything outside of Hanley, that is also in Hanley, should be better. What made it worse one might ask? The frontage was festooned with litter, the tables had not been wiped clean and there were dirty cups and trays dotted around. I understand that clearing tables is challenging for 'modern workers' (A nice way to describe wage slaves that don't work as hard as they could because there is little reward in doing a job well)... Anyway, another problem with the Derby Caffe Nero outlet is the some of the customers themselves, though there is little that can be done when people who dress, in a way that suggests the objective is to look grubby, encroach upon your premises and decide that sitting outside the front of the coffee shop is the best place for them. Some individuals may find it useful to reflect on this before leaving home in the morning - or afternoon as was probably the case with those who infected my eyes. Yes, I seem harsh, but I wouldn't want any such unfortunates to sit in the back of the coffee shop as if there is some sort of socio-economic apartheid system in place -...
Read moreVery poor....! I moved back from london 2 months ago to my home town. The staff know my face because I visit regularly, unfortunately I have received the worst service in the derby branch and experienced rude staff here. This morning i rang to ask them to save a pastry because they ran out yesterday...a curteousy which costs them nothing. The young boy told me they had not put one away and that it could not be done! I proceeded to explain common curteousy and manners does not cost anything and ask why they are so hostile in this caffe nero. The young boy proceeded to argue with me whilst the portley woman chipped in in front of dismayed customers!. Not very professional or helpful??. I explained that even in london, notoriously known for being cold , they would extend this curteousy why could they not do this and be friendly in the process? This attitude disturbs me...the lack of customer service and never saying good morning...is this derby?? The Londoners can manage it ...why can't they??.
Unfortunately derby only has the one caffe nero to my knowledge and I will not be using...

Real good place, exceptionally good espresso, better than Gregs by miles in terms of coffee, and better than Costa in terms of service.
Very friendly staff at Nero, very efficient staff behind the counter, Chris, Jody and Abby.
