Chaotic, slow and unpleasant service. Downright rude and argumentative “management”. The food was nice but everything else left a lot to be desired. Won’t ever be going back.
Shocking. We ordered drinks and food at the same time. 15/20 minutes later I called the waiter back to say we were still waiting on our drinks. He apologised and went to sort them. I wondered how we’d been waiting so long as there were a few members of staff who seemed to be standing around for long periods of time doing nothing but chatting to each other (this seemed to be a regular occurrence when I visited before). He came back a few minutes later to say he’d lost the order - food and drink. So we had to reorder.
Note - I’ve been here a few times and the same member of staff frequently forgets what the order is, or loses it somehow, or brings out parts of an order.
When the food finally came, we were told one of the orders was something different to what we’d asked for, which - after discussing with a second waiter - was corrected to what we had ordered (?), and two of the broad bean risottos were replaced with seafood risottos. I told the waiter that this was wrong, to which I had a look of complete puzzlement as they slowly backed away with said dishes. The rest of the party politely waited another 15 minutes until the right risottos were brought out at which point I explained that this wasn’t good enough, and asked for the two dishes to be taken off the bill. The waiter went to talk to his manager and promptly came back to say this wouldn’t be possible. I asked him to get the manager over - the whole party was absolutely gobsmacked with the downright rudeness and arrogance of the “manager”. Not only did he say he would absolutely not be taking the meals off the bill, when I explained we had the wrong risotto his response was ‘well, you just said risotto so we brought you the most popular version on the menu’ and when I explained that in fact was our second time of having to order the food he replied ‘I didn’t know that, did I’. No apology, no acceptance of any wrong doing.
After pushing a little further, we were offered free drinks. When I said I expected drinks for us all to cost more then the two meals, he said that was his final offer and wouldn’t be doing anything else for us. I’m not sure of the rationale behind this.
Not only was I lost for words at what I was being told. I can’t believe the immaturity and lack of customer service skills that was displayed by someone who was supposed to be in charge and setting an example to the rest of the staff. It was laughable.
In the end we had one of the risottos taken off the menu and were given a bottle of wine to share. This went part-way to making up for the absolute shambles we experienced but it was too little too late.
Unfortunately, this guy Carl/Karl was also incredibly rude when I visited with my three month old daughter, husband and mother-in-law on a Sunday. Despite telling him we were only there for coffees, he apparently sat us at a table which was meant for customers that wanted to eat. And didn’t he let us know how annoyed he was. Despite the place being nearly empty, there were so many huffs and puffs the Big Bad Wolf would’ve been envious. We ended up walking out without placing an order and going to Gusto’s round the corner, where we happily sat for a few drinks and pleasant and relaxed service.
Oh - and we’re still waiting on the sauces we asked for with our meals. They never came out either.
I would avoid this place at all costs - shabby service at best. And I’ve...
Read moreDisappointed to say we had a terrible experience at Jacks. We went as a larger party for a friends birthday, we had to pay a £5 deposit pp which is absolutely fine. Unfortunately one person wasn’t able to come so when some of the group arrived they informed the staff one person wasn’t coming but they werent 100% sure what meal they were having and when the rest of the party arrived we would confirm (you’d think this is fine, food should be fresh so shouldn’t have started cooking and we’d paid a £5 deposit to cover anyone not turning up/booking being cancelled!) I informed them the meal was chicken fajitas that didn’t need to be made. Sat down the food then came out where a nice young girl bought the fajitas, I explained that was the meal we didn’t want and I had cancelled it and if they could please take it off the bill.
Then an older gentleman came round with the fajitas.... I explained the above and how I’d just said to his colleague we’d cancelled it and if they could please take it off the bill that would be great. He said ‘well you’re paying for the meal so who’s having it?’ I said we’re not paying for a meal that we had cancelled, happy of course for the deposit to be retained but we wouldn’t pay. He said the food is pre cooked so it was too late it had been made. We al know fajitas takes about 5 minutes and I said I don’t want to eat food That’s been cooked for the last hour!!!!!!!!! He shouted so aggressively during this conversation how we would be Paying for the meal and it’s in the T&Cs when you pay deposit. It’s not, and I asked him to show me which he couldn’t which made him even more angry. He also threatened to call the police....
I asked for a manager although unfortunately think that was him, they sent a nice girl over who apologised if we felt he was rude. He was more then rude he was aggressive and patronising.
They took the fajitas off the bill but in honesty they should have at least done a bit more. The experience was absolutely horrible and no one expects to be shouted at by staff in a restaurant when you’ve had a reasonable request.
Food was lovely and feel sorry for the rest of the staff, you must be so embarrassed working with such a vile aggressive person!
If you want to be spoken to like sh**...
Read moreIf I could give it zero stars I would. I Went to Jack's for the first time for afternoon tea at 3pm with friends to have a catch up. We pre-ordered our food to make it easier on us and the staff there. As soon as we were sat down the cream and jam was placed on the table.
An hour later our sandwiches, cakes and scones came to the table. The bread in the sandwiches was very hard and dry, the cakes were also very dry and the scones were hard like wood. At the same time of all the items being dry, the jam and cream was on the table 2 hours before we could use them.
We informed the staff there about the stale food to which they replaced the sandwiches and cakes with a fresher lot but couldn't replace the scones as there was none left. Other people around us having afternoon tea there, were also complaining about the same thing.
When we had finished eating our afternoon tea, we asked to either speak to the chef or the manager about the slow service and stale food. We were told that the chef was not in and left at 12pm which was suprising as we thought the food there was made fresh. When I questioned this, the waitress informed us that he made the food in the morning before he left. To which I responded by asking if our food was properly wrapped as every item we had was dry and hard. She didn't know how to respond to this and said she will get the manager.
10 minutes or so later the owner angrily storms to our table, throws £20 at us each and demands we leave the premises immediately. At no point was me and my friends loud or rude to any member of staff, when complaining about the stale food we were not raising our voices about it and left us all in shock as to why we were being treated the way we were from the owner.
As we putting our coats on to leave still shocked after being told to get out, we asked the waitress that was cleaning our table, if the owner is rude like this to every customer. To which she replied "I can't answer that as he is my grand father" and she walked away.
My first experience there will be my last and I will be telling all my friends and family to stay well...
