I visited your Belgrave Road, Leicester yesterday as a party of 6 as my son in law who recently came to the UK from India as he wanted to try the dosa.
Whilst the restaurant was busy we waited the 10 minutes we had been asked and were told to go and sit upstairs, which we did. The staff hurriedly cleared the table so it was still wet but we sat down and ordered around £30 of food from the main menu as opposed to the buffet.
After 5 minutes our drinks arrived and we then waited for another 30 minutes before a single dish of chilli paneer arrived. 10 minutes later no other food had arrived and the paneer was now cold so I asked where the rest of our food was and I was told, "kitchen is very busy you must wait". I asked that the paneer be taken back and bought back hot with all of the rest of our food.
By 45 minutes I was getting fed up especially since other people who arrived after us were being served from the kitchen (not the buffet). it took around 50 minutes for our food to arrive and even then the padoora's we ordered were now puri's - I couldnt be bothered to complain as we were so hungry and angry too. None of the 3 waiters really cared and we had to ask for spoons, glasses, serviettes and water when all the other tables had them set up.
Although the food was good even if some dishes were wrong, none of our party enjoyed our meal as we genuinely felt we had been treated like second class citizens. Maybe it was because we were Sikhs and this restaurant has an issue with Sikhs, less so for the other diners. Whatever it was and however busy they were the services was not even second rate, more like third rate.
Upon paying I did complain to the manager downstairs but in fairness he was more concerned about taking payment than listening to a customer.
I for one will not be visiting another Chennai Dosa or recommending it to any of my friends or family.

Read moreWe visit this restaurant frequently and usually receive good service. However, today the service was extremely poor. Although a table was allocated to us, we couldn't find anyone to take our orders once we were seated. We asked a lady staff member, Ms. Y, who was taking orders from a neighbouring table if she could attend to us, but she ignored us. We then had to approach a middle-aged gentleman at the billing station to ask if someone would be attending to our table. He said he would send someone. Later, a male staff member with black spectacles, Mr. X, took our order and then disappeared. We weren't even given a glass of water. After tracking down Mr. X, we asked for water and eventually received it. Mr. X then brought us a starter in a bowl without plates, spoons, or tissues. We asked him to get these for us, which he did. After some time, Mr. X and Ms. Y brought our ordered items, but we didn't see them again until we went to pay at the end. Ms. Y attended to the tables next to and behind us but avoided making eye contact with us or asking if we needed anything. We noticed Mr. X leaving the building halfway through our visit. We needed some more water and as no one came around, we managed to grab a bottle of water from the next unoccupied table. After finishing our meal, we were unsure who to ask for a cup of coffee because Mr. X had left and Ms. Y did not seem interested. Finally, I went up to the billing station and asked for a cup of coffee, explaining the situation to the staff. This was a disappointing experience for us as regular customers, as we had never encountered these staff members before. Despite the restaurant being busy, the staff did not seem to care. This lack of attentiveness to customers will eventually lead to the restaurant being less busy.
We travel several miles to dine here regularly ,but will reconsider exploring other avenues after...
Read moreWe placed a substantial order of vegetable biryani for 6–7 people from Chennai Dosa on Melton Road, Leicester, expecting a quality meal for our gathering. What we received, however, was nothing short of disgraceful. Within just 30 minutes of collecting the food, the biryani had already gone bad — it reeked of a sour, rotten stench that made it impossible to eat. The dish was clearly spoiled and completely unfit for consumption. It was not only a shocking letdown, but a potential health hazard. Such rapid spoilage can only point to severe negligence — whether that’s unhygienic kitchen conditions, the use of old or expired ingredients, or blatant disregard for proper food handling. For a restaurant that brands itself as authentic and reputable, this level of carelessness is absolutely unforgivable.
What made this ordeal even more infuriating was the way it was handled by the restaurant staff. When we returned the food and raised our concerns, we were met not with concern or accountability, but with unapologetic arrogance and rudeness. There was zero remorse, zero ownership, and not even the most basic courtesy of an apology. It was as if serving spoiled food to paying customers was completely normal for them. The lack of professionalism was staggering. For the money we spent, we expected at least safe food and basic respect — we received neither. This was more than a bad meal — it was a disturbing display of indifference and a total failure in food safety and customer service. If this is the standard they operate by, then not only is it unacceptable, it’s dangerous. I strongly urge others to avoid this place until they show they’re capable of treating both their food and their customers with the bare minimum of care...
