We’ve been to this restaurant before and left nothing but praise (see attached image of our previous positive review). Sadly, this visit was the complete opposite – not because we were looking for faults, but because of serious food safety issues and shockingly aggressive behaviour towards us from the owner.
Food Safety Concerns • We don’t eat fish, which normally comes with the thali, and the waiter kindly swapped this for us – a nice gesture.
• My chicken fry arrived raw, pink, and cold inside. The waiter admitted they’d “rushed it” because we were short on time, took it away, and returned the same chicken (as the pink piece I’d cut in half was missing and not replaced by another piece), just fried longer.
• The chicken curry within the thali also contained undercooked, pink chicken.
• When I told the waiter, he said “this is what South Indian chicken curry is like”. Are we seriously to believe it’s meant to be undercooked, cold, and pink?
• When I raised it again, he simply nodded and walked away.
Owner’s Conduct • The manager recognised us from a previous awful experience at their sister restaurant Dakshin and must have told the owner we had complained before and left a Google review, not to sabotage, but to highlight to potential customers that customer service and allergy needs are not catered for. Surely that’s the whole point of reviews (feel free to check my profile, I use the platform to leave positive reviews, unless we’ve had a shocking experience such as this).
• After we had paid our bill in full, without asking or even suggesting we wanted a free dish or discount, the owner interrupted my conversation with the waiter, spoke in his local language about me, and pulled up my Dakshin review on his phone.
• When I confronted him about speaking about me in another language, he shouted that he could “speak in any language he wants” ignoring the fact I was a polite, paying customer who had already left feedback without asking for anything in return.
• He stood over me, rude, confrontational, and raising his voice in front of a full restaurant, accusing me of visiting his restaurants just to complain.
• As I was leaving and speaking to a friend at another table, he approached my friend, told them “This man leaves negative reviews everywhere,” and told me not to speak to “his customers” – even though this was my personal friend.
Final Thoughts No doubt we’ll get the same hostile, defensive response the owner gives to every negative review. This was an awful, horrendous experience. We will never return and will be telling friends and family to steer clear. It’s a shame, we all work extremely hard for our money and don’t want any business to suffer — but this type of behaviour is simply not acceptable.
We were actually embarrassed for him. We could easily have raised our voices and made a scene, but we didn’t stoop to his level.
Edit post comments:
Absolute lie about us returning — we didn’t. Your own manager told us to try Amaravathi instead. And let’s be clear: it was you or your manager who told staff not to serve my children because of their allergies. That’s not “fixing the issue” — that’s discrimination.
The chicken fry was raw. Refrying it doesn’t change the fact it was also served undercooked in the curry too! Nothing was done about that. We made two very real complaints — stop twisting it into something else and learn to take honest feedback!
And calling me “attention seeking”? Laughable. You were the one shouting and being downright rude. Typical response: lies, denial, and zero accountability. Exactly what I...
Read moreI have been to many places in my life and will keep going to as I am avid food lover. However this place has surely given me terrible customer service experience. I mean how in first place you get treated like this. I ordered a paneer tikka masala on waiter's recommendation. Upon arrival I had a small bite of it and I found a hair curled nicely into paneer which makes it apparent that hair got into while preparation however I was accused of it being my hair. No Apologies regarding this instead being told I was looking for free food. SHAMEFUL OF SOMEONE TRYING TO RUN A PLACE AND GIVE CUSTOMER SERVICE. WE THOUGHT OF TRYING THIS PLACE ON COLD CHILLY WINDY DAY WITH TWO LITTLE KIDS. WE WERE INSTANTLY MADE UNCOMFORTABLE AS I FOUND HAIR IN THE DISH. THE WAITER KEPT BUSY GOING TO OTHER TABLES AND COMPLETELY IGNORED US ONCE WE WERE DONE WITH OUR OTHER MEAL WHICH WAS DOSA AND IDLY. HE LEFT US WAITING FOR LONG TO CLEAR THE TABLE AND GET THE BILL. I HAD TO GET HOLD OF HIM AND ASK FOR THE BILL AT COUNTER. HE DIDNT APOLOGIES FOR ANYTHING THAT HAPPENED THROUGHOUT INSTEAD MADE ME FEEL THAT I WAS LOOKING FOR A FREEBY. I WOULD LIKE TO REMIND YOU THAT I DID NOT CAME TO YOUR RESTAURANT TO FIND 1 BIT OF FREE STUFF. I CAME TO ENJOY MY EVENING WITH MY FRIENDS AND THERE FAMILY TO HAVE GOOD TIME INSTEAD YOU SPOILED OUR MEAL YOU COULDNT ACCOMMODATE 12 MONTH OLD BABY AS YOU ONLY HAVE 1 KIDS CHAIR. COME ON MATE YOU GUYS CAN DO BETTER THAN THIS. HOW YOU INSULT COMPLAINING CUSTOMERS IS VERY APPARENT NOW FROM YOUR PAST REVIEWS. WE ARE DEFINITELY NOT VISITING YOUR RESTAURANT SO YOU CAN SAVE YOURSELF WITH THAT REPLY HOW YOU HAVE ADDRESSED YOUR OTHER BAD REVIEWS. I WOULD LIKE TO REMIND YOUR CUSTOMERS THAT PLEASE AVOID THIS GROSS AND REAL BAD CUSTOMER SERVICE. YOU SURELY CAN FIND BETTER FOOD AND CUSTOMER SERVICE IN...
Read moreMy husband and I decided to stop by Amaravathi Leicester for a quick dinner on a weeknight around 7pm. We were warmly welcomed by the waiter and promptly shown to a table. The restaurant is small but cozy, ideal for small groups, and since it was quiet, we were seated right away without a booking.
We were served water and our drink orders were taken immediately. The menu had a good variety of options, and the décor added to the warm and inviting atmosphere.
We ordered the poppadom tray, vada (which came with some really tasty chutneys), and a plain dosa. Everything arrived hot and fresh - the dosa in particular was absolutely delicious. You could really tell it was made fresh to order.
The service throughout was excellent. The waiter was attentive and friendly without being intrusive. It was also nice to see other customers clearly enjoying their meals, which made the overall atmosphere even more pleasant.
One thing to note: there's a minimum spend of £20 if you're paying by card, so it's worth keeping that in mind.
Great food, good service, and a comfortable setting. I’d definitely...
