My wife and I wanted to sit in the nice sun room area at the back, as soon as we sat down we got barked at by the proprietor because we’d sat at a table with four seats and there was only two of us. We seemed to have accidentally caused him to be angry and defensive towards us. We had no problem in moving, we were happy to, but he continued barking at us aggressively while pointing at a another couple sat at a table of four and telling us they were waiting for someone to join them. All the pointing and defensive barking was in front of all the other customers who were by this time all staring at us as we very obligingly sat down at a table for two. However, the table was extremely wobbly (and I mean definite spillage wobbly), and we were still getting stared at. We felt extremely uncomfortable, so we decided to leave, at which point we were barked at again as he told us he was an independent trader who needed to keep seating available for when parties of four come in. If he feels that way, he should do one of two things, firstly he could try some anger management courses (or perhaps some yoga) which will enable him to ask customers to move tables in a pleasant and friendly manner, or secondly he could have a sign saying “please wait to be seated” and then he could show people to the seats he thinks are appropriate instead of getting defensive and angry with couples who innocently sit at a table of four, putting them off ever wanting to put any of their hard earned money his independent...
Read moreThis is the second time we have visited for lunch and both have been excellent. Chimes gives the illusion that is pretendes to be something it isn't ...it isn't. The tiny intimate cafe , restaurant is lovely for popping in for lunch as they are only open during the day, shame! My wife and I chose to sit in the conservatory at the rear and ordered Chicken Caesar Salad and I had Salad with warm pancetta and sundried tomatoes served with an assortment of breads. They were both fantastic and tasty. To follow my wife had carrot cake and I had Strawberry Cheescake served with ice cream (an option I chose) and coulis. Again delicious. Cafe Latte to finish and a walk aroung the nearby Cathedral I really rave about this little cafe as I feel the food is always cooked to order, fresh and served as if they really care about what they do. The down side if any, they do not open for evening dinners. This is a huge opportunity being missed as the cafe lends itself to intimate evening dining or even dare I say cooperate nights for small companies. This is our first port of call when we visit...
Read moreWe visited Ripon today for a walk around this quaint little town & while looking for somewhere to have a coffee & bite to eat we came across this fantastic little find. We were greeted on entry with a welcoming smile & asked for a table for 3. Our waitress Nicola showed us to our table at the rear in a cosy conservatory. At that the owner Mark introduced himself & explain the menu to us & that everything was home made. There was a vast menu to choose from, everything from soups to gourmet sausage rolls, flapjack to specialised scones. Service was on point, timely & attentive. We will definitely...
