Absolutely fantastic course! Set alongside Cardingmill Valley & the Longmynd it has incredible views at every turn. The course design itself flows with the natural contours of the landscape providing a real test of your ability to deal with slopes & gradients!
The greens are always in brilliant condition & provide a real test with slopes, double break and tiers. Despite being relatively open throughout winter/spring, the course evolves into a different beast in summer as the ferns grow to full height and become a trap for any stray shots! You don't need to be a big hitter to shoot a score here, though there is plenty opportunity to open up and go after pins if you wish! Course management and well placed approach shots will serve you well!
This course truly changes with the seasons, and because of the altitude/location of the course it rarely holds water, meaning it's playable virtually all year round. Be prepared to battle with some winds if it's breezy at ground level, but that's part of its charm and challenge. It really is a course like no other around Shropshire & beyond.
James in the pro shop always greets you with a warm welcome. The members are lovely too, happy to advise you on the course and give you a few tips.
You'll also be well received in the newly refurbished club house for a post round drink inside, or out on the deck. Lovely food available too!
A revamp of the practice facilities is well underway too, with two new nets, putting green and a simulator in the making.
Treat yourself, there aren't many better value courses...

If you’re like me and you look at the course yardage and layout before you play it, you could be forgiven into thinking it’s not going to be much of a test, a little over 5000 yards and a par 66, doesn’t feel like much. Guess again.
What the course lacks in length, it makes up for in its natural protection, the undulations, the wind and the heather. If you play it in the winter, you’ll be treated with wide open fairways and strong winds, choosing the right club becomes very hard. If you come in the summer you might get lucky and have a calm day, but the heather will be up and all of a sudden the fairways seem very narrow. You will, however, always be treated to some of the best views money can buy, it doesn’t matter which direction you look, the scenery is stunning as far as the eye can see.
The course is fun to play and always keeps you honest, the greens are good, not too fast but lots of subtle (and not so subtle) breaks. The head pro is a top bloke and always on hand to give you advice and the clubhouse serves lovely food and fresh cold beer on tap.
Come to stretton and have a great time playing our hilly, deceptively tricky course, and then sit outside with a cold beer, looking over the...
Read moreLoved this place, headed from Bath to Chester for a catchup with freinds and decided to have a round en route. Stumbled on this place on GolfNow and liked the cost (£20) and the flexible array of tee times.
Course has amazing scenery and is very quirky (starts with 3 par 3's) a little tough on the legs until you get up to the top but worth it! We are both fairly high handicapoers but managed to get round without losing too many balls!
We also got lucky with weather but worth taking gear if it looks like rain/wind as quite exposed.
Other players/members all very freindly as was the chap in the pro-shop, we felt very welcome from the off. A round neither of us will forget quickly, just need another excuse to head up there now!
You could pay a lot more for a lot less golf. Greens, fairways, tee boxes seemed good to me, green quickness took awhile to get used to but this will change depending on weather leading up to your round.
Highly reccomend for both the scenery, people and the golf. Will hopefully be...
