Costa Coffee — Restaurant in England

I've read the other reviews and there seems to be a lot of negative opinions about this particular Costa Coffee, but we still thought we'd give it a try. It's situated right in the main entrance of Southend Hospital so you can't miss it when entering the building. It's also where people wait to collect their prescriptions, so they've got a great through flow of people, but unfortunately they just can't cope and as other reviewers have said, waiting times at the tills are horrendous. I picked up a salad but couldn't find any knives and forks, these along with serviettes are kept behind the counter and when they were handed to me I noticed that they weren't very clean. The hot chocolate I ordered for my wife was weak and watery, comparable to one from a cheap vending machine, not good! My salad was good and I also had a cake which was delicious so if you're not in any rush and aren't that bothered about dirty cutlery and huge prices then this is the place for you. Costa Coffee never disappoints! The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, perfect for both a quick coffee on the go and a relaxed sit-down with friends. The staff are always friendly and polite, and they really take the time to make you feel looked after.

So this Costa has a captive audience being right in the main reception area of Southend Hospital. Coffee and toasties were fine as you'd expect. The system itself seems very awkward,not knowing where to stand for so many people waiting and tutting. Staff seemed over worked and perhaps stretched too,but we're working extremely hard whilst dealing with vast numbers.
