We went mainly because it is close to the Palace Theatre. Food was standard pub fare. Very reasonably priced, especially with the 20% theatre discount. Drink selection is pretty standard as well. What makes this place stand out is the friendliness of the staff and the fact they are supporting local entertainment. They have live music every other Saturday and of course the pre/post theatre discount on food. We'll certainly be back whenever we go to the Palace theatre or anywhere in the area

What a great find! Wife and I were looking for somewhere to eat & found this lovely pub close to the Palace Theatre where we going that evening. The pub is very quaint and clean, the staff were really great especially Bo our server & Jenny at the bar so helpful and friendly! Food was terrific, nice and hot, tasty, nicely presented too beer was good too. Next time we visit the Theatre we will 100% be back, Thanks so much, Steve & Julie

From the moment I clasped my eyes on this atrocity of a building I knew I was destined for the most abysmal pub experience of my entire life. Yet still, in the name of fairness, and with god by my side, I stepped across the threshold into the unknown. As I walked in I was 'greeted' by dull, featureless bar staff whose lifeless, scowling eyes, filled with thinly veiled contemptuous rage, followed me suspiciously around the building - I strongly suspect they're mostly small-time players in a murky criminal underworld, or at the very least, Illuminati spies. The clientele? Pah! Perhaps the sorriest looking, rag-tag group of reprobates and rapscallions this town has to offer. Perversely plotting, and drinking what appeared to be some kind of fermented vegetable drink? They had it in for me. I knew it. The unearthly stench of putrid vomit, blood and despair permeated my olfactory senses as I approached the bar - this place hadn't been cleaned in months, possibly even years. It felt as if death stalked the very air around me, and the catacombs of hell were only a drink away. The filthy, emaciated barman's beady, reptilian eyes bored into me with vicious lust as I ordered an ale from the meagre, classless selection. He merely grunted in response, then, with his blood stained claw-hand he thrust forward a pint of what I suspected to be a concoction consisting primarily of recycled dregs from the numerous half drunk glasses collected at closing time the evening before. Sadly, it turned out to be far, far worse. I wretched as I gulped it down. Poison - as I suspected! I hastily made my way to the lavatory, weaving my way through the prostitutes, criminals and Illuminati spies as I felt the toxin slowly coursing its way through my veins. Upon entering what I can only describe as a disease ridden cesspit of filth and corruption, my bowls relinquished their dignity and I collapsed, sweating in putrid puddle of my own, now toxic, excrement.'This place; a disease ridden pustule on the anus of humanity,' I whispered to myself in impotent rage. Surely I wasn't destined to leave this cruel world in such an undignified manner? I flirted with conciousness for an unknown duration of time. It could have been minutes, it could have been hours. It may well have been years....

Wow, popped in for a quiet drink with my wife after a nice meal at a local restaurant. The bar staff decided to ignore us, as they wandered off and served someone else while in the middle of serving us, then another member of staff waved the card machine at me as our drinks arrived and given I was stood there holding my card out I paid. It turned out I paid for someone else's round, which given the way they waved the machine at me was hardly surprising. No real drama, these things happen, until the bar manager came over and started to have a go at us. Like really lay into me. I offered to take cash or whatever was easiest to balance the till, but that made him more angry. We went and sat down with our drinks and the bar manager came over and gave me the difference back in cash, then started to lay into us again and told us to drink up and leave. Utterly bizarre, so of course we left immediately, as the bar manager had made it abundantly clear that we weren't welcome. He also started to tell me all about what a bad day he'd had and how we were all he needed right now. Wow?! So be warned if you fancy popping in to this bar for a nice evening, I've never been treated so appallingly for no reason. Best avoided. Shame, as a friend of ours turned up with his band as we were leaving and it would have been lovely to have stayed and listened to their...
