Just had a takeaway from DaruChini.
As a previous loyal customer of the Raj Tandoori, I had high expectations, especially with the new management in place.
Alas, to say I am extremely disappointed is a massive understatement, as I can honestly say, this has been the worst Indian I have ever tasted (and I usually have at least one a week with work).
To start off on a positive note, the poppadoms (both spicy and plain) were good, although the salad accompanying it had seen better day with wilted lettuce and browning cucumber.
Unfortunately that was the only thing that was acceptable.
The mushroom and pilau rice was overcooked and mushy - indeed you would be hard pushed to tell the two apart, except for the saffron colour in the mushroom rice. Indeed, the pilau was more like an easy cook long grain rice, rather than a specialty basmati.
The chicken jalfrezi was so bland, with rubbery chicken and a distinct lack of any of the vegetables you would expect with the dish. It has had to go straight in the bin....
The vegetable korma (as the chef was unable to cook a locknow), resembled - well I'm sure you can use your imagination, and tasted equally foul - my wife left it after the first spoonful and it joined the jalfrezi in the bin.
The tandoori chicken was again rubbery and non descript in flavour, and the lamb shaslick was probably the greasiest I have ever tasted with bits of gristle in it, incredibly unpleasant.
Even the peshawari nan couldn't salvage the experience, being not properly cooked with raw dough present.
I know that we are in Tier 3, but surely if you are going to bother opening, then at least make sure what you serve resembles something that is edible, if not desirable.
So very dissapointed with this experience, as I also work in hospitality, I know personally, very well the hardships that have been enforced on this sector of the economy, and as such try to do my bit to support local buisness wherever I can.
I really wanted this restaurant to shine, as there really isn't another good Indian in the vicinity.
Alas, it has failed spectacularly, and I would unfortunately urge everyone to...
Read moreClearly ran by lovely people. However, running a business and in particular a restaurant during Covid separates those that know how to run a good establishment from those that don't. We're on holiday near Wareham and due to other places being fully booked we decided to give this place a go. From the start the restaurant appeared I'll prepared and shabby (as others have reported - seats in the restaurant given way to storing goods etc....) Then followed the flat drinks and stale popodums. I asked for a Tawa main dish, but was told it would take too long to prepare.
We never felt relaxed. The single person running front of house continuously ran (actually running!) up and down the restaurant back and forth to/from the kitchen (serving just four tables). We finally recieved our mains 1hr 5 min after arrival, but without the Naan bread we ordered as informed the oven was broken. Then after we finished our meals and drinks a naan arrived at the table. All in all the mains were average and confirmation that it was a mistake to visit.
Our gut instincts were to leave upon arrival. We gave DaruChini the benefit of the doubt. I never usual do reviews however i dont want others to make the same mistake. Avoid!
Ps. Couldn't find a good hygiene rating (on premises or online). Would be surprised if it were...
Read moreAt the final day of our short vacation in Wareham, we unexpectedly decided to eat at this restaurant to get out if the rain. We normally avoid all cuisines with a reputation for spicy food and due to this, never went to an Indian restaurant before. But we were getting wet and hungry, so we bit the bullet and wandered in.
This turned out to be the best culinary decision we had made all weekend, and we regret not having had the days left to visit a second time.
We were guided by the wonderful staff into making a selection of dishes that fit our restrictive sensibilities and were provided with the best culinary experience of our entire weekend. And for this wonderful dinner, we ended up paying nearly 20 pounds less than our other dinners that weekend.
Thoroughly recommended. Can't really judge on the atmosphere due to it being very early in a rainy sunday evening and there being very few...
