Unfortunately the most dreadful and antagonising reception on a last-ditched honeymoon.
With Corona measures in place and having cancelled my overseas honeymoon, I went for an inland excursion. After landing in Cheddar, we found most restaurants closed due to Covid, so we stopped by this small place, squeezed behind the carpark.
We entered, wearing our masks and then sanitised. Customers were sitting side by side but we nonetheless waited. The female waiter walked passed, giving us a condescending glance and ignored our clear interest in being seated.
After waiting too long we cautiously walked in keeping distance and were very rudely spoken to by the male waiter. In an eerily patronising way, he snarled that 'this is a sit down service so just sit down.'
Presuming this ice-cream parlour looking 'restaurant' was reserving the basics of social distancing, so I asked if we could sit on a particular table. Instead, he told us to go to another room (away from everyone else), and to sit in an outlying, four walled corner. We headed for another table, still all alone in the other room but then the woman angrily grumbled that we need to 'sit in that corner'!
I couldn't understand why they were so angry and wanted us so secluded and 'out of the way'. We calmly walked out because it was not worth being spoken to so rudely and humiliated even though I was fuming inside and drove home without a meal.
Rarely have I come across such low customer service standards in the UK, let alone in a small town that relies on tourism, during a global pandemic. Seeing this is a public platform, I'm sure these arrogant staff members will now express their 'sincerest' apologies. But I'm not after your pretention, but an introspective look at your poor customer service. I would not recommend this place when...
Read moreThird time of visiting today. Previous two times, always felt a little awkward with the staff, as though we as a group were a nuisance being there. But I've not said anything due to only wanting a quick coffee fix before carrying on with my day. But today, having been told to stand outside and order at the Hatch at the side of the Cafe, we waited for 15 minutes before leaving. I understand it's a busy day (sunday) but it's not like there was a queue of people waiting. And there were empty tables inside and outside, so it's not like they were at full capacity too. Just a polite acknowledgement would have been nice by the staff that were walking near the Hatch, but it was verging on rudeness the way in which 1) the way we were told to go there, and 2) ignored, without eye contact let alone communication. Seeing as it was the 3rd time of feeling unwelcome, we were quick to make our decision to go somewhere else. It's a shame, because it's in a...
Read moreWe ordered steak and guiness pie with homemade chips & peas, fruitcrumble and ice cream with lattes. Sounds scrumptious! Unfortunately the reality was beyond disappointing!! The steak and guiness pie was in reality a slither of said pie with frozen French fries and peas all heated up in a microwave, hence the chips were dark brown and all stuck together. The pastry onthe pie was soggy where the filling was and the pie crust was rock hard and was almost impossible to cut even with a steak knife. The crumble was also microwaved and therefore very stoggy, nothing like crumble should be. I can honestly say the best thing about the whole meal was the glass of tap water I ordered. I suggest Trading Standards investigate Edelweiss Cafe definition of homemade - most definitely misleading! The politely thing I can say about the staff is some of them should have thought twice before becoming waitresses. Definitely not worth over £40 for two people -...
