Souvlike is a hidden gem in the heart of Cheddar Gorge — an authentic slice of Greece that took us completely by surprise. The food was nothing short of 11/10 on every count. It honestly felt as though there must have been a Greek grandmother tucked away in the kitchen — and there was!
For our family, of four adults and a hungry teenager, we ordered two mixed platters for two. The portions were so generous, try as we may, we simply couldn’t finish. The leftovers were just as delicious, the next day. To be clear, every dish was outstanding: the chicken was tender and perfectly seasoned, the sausages were a revelation, the lamb was melt-in-the-mouth, and the homemade sauces tied it all together beautifully. Quite simply, everything was faultless.
The setting itself is quaint if not a little on the intimate side — we found ourselves having to keep our voices down — but that only added to the charm. From what I can tell, there are plans to expand the space. Either way, the atmosphere felt warm, authentic, and welcoming. Prices are very reasonable for the quality and quantity of food served, so come hungry.
We also learned the same family runs La Rocca next door, which is home to some of the best Italian food you’ll find outside of Italy. Clearly, this family knows great food.
A word to the wise then, if you’re visiting Cheddar Gorge, do yourself a favour: skip the fish and chips and head to Souvlike. You’ll leave with a full stomach, a smile on your face, and with plans for your next visit.

Read moreThe food was excellent, but the staff was very rude. There were four of us at the table, and the staff refused to give us four glasses to share the two cans of Coca-Cola, saying that they would only provide glasses based on the number of cans we bought, making it impossible for us to share the drink.
Edit: We were a group of four, with two of us (me and my sister) planning to share a meal (It seems other customers have had similar issues with sharing dishes, as noted in other reviews.) My mother, who has food intolerances, brought a small package of tomatoes and ate a few. There were no "lunch boxes" as mentioned in your response and we didn’t bring any drinks with us.
When I realized how uncomfortable you seemed about the tomatoes, I went to the counter to apologize. I probably should have explained the situation and asked for permission for my mother to eat them.
Additionally, when I ordered a drink, I requested glasses at the same time and was told, "We don’t have glasses." However, the restaurant was empty, and all tables were set with glasses. After we sat down, you removed them all. Your attitude was incredibly rude, and if your business isn't thriving, I believe it’s due to...
Read moreSouvlike is a little off the beaten track, yet clearly no secret - plenty of people had found it, just as we did. Without a reservation we couldn’t sit indoors, but the outdoor seating was pleasant and cosy, with a welcome breeze on what was one of the hottest days of the month.
I had the pork souvlaki (or their pun on it, “souvlike”), my wife went for the chicken yeeros (gyros), and the daughters had grilled chicken fillet and a pork souvlaki wrap. We also shared a tiropita on the side. I ordered an Epsa lemonade but was served Loux instead; both Greek brands, so no harm done, and it was delicious. My wife had a Greek coffee, which she’d been missing, and I rounded off with baklava. Be warned: it wasn’t the dainty square you often get, but a slab more like a slice of cake; great if you’re sharing, but ask first if you’re expecting something small.
The food was good, though not the very best I’ve had, and the prices felt a little on the high side for what it was. Still, the staff were warm and welcoming, and I appreciated that they let you choose gratuity rather than...
