Went during a quiet time but I have to say, amazing food, decent little country pub... Asked. A nearby ice cream shop about a propper traditional farm to table pub and he recommended here... I have to say as someone who's a little tight fisted, the prices shocked me at how reasonable they were and when the food turned up, it exceeded our expectations and more, the lasagne and beef burger and additional bacon cheese and egg were full of flavour, cooked really well and the service from the staff was brilliant, the locals were lovely and accommodating (especially to someone with a Scouse accent that is usually looked down on for no good reason)... This is a beautiful little place and I can't wait to visit cheddar again to come back... P.S I was recommended the cheddar valley thatchers as there was no dark fruits type cider... I'm not normally one for an apple cider but the barmaid let me try a touch of the cider first and it's a lovely cloudy and rich mildly sweet slightly dry cider with not too much fizz... I now realise I've just never had...
Read moreThis pub looked nice. Warm crackling fire. Sweet old local man sitting with a pint reading the paper. We settled in, looked at the menu and had a question about the “pie of the day”. Exciting stuff. What could this pie be? Had a hankering for a good local pie. The pie mystery was never solved. No doubt we would be still sitting there if I hadn’t tried to peer through the shroud of the abandoned pub. A lady floated through the kitchen, catching my eye, quickly looking away and disappearing to the glass machine. Nobody else about, I called to her. My voice echoed off the lovely interior a number of times before turning to the sweet old man to ask if the place was open. He had a pint in front of him. Logic suggested it was open. Ordered our meals thought that they would all come together turns out not in this place they don't believe in eating together but we didn't pay alot so oh well doesn't stop there tho turns our the food we Ordered was cooked together but only one came out and other wasn't paid for we asked where it was and we were told that they hadn't added it to the tab but they had cooked it and it was sitting in the kitchen then to our surprise they offered us the food that had now apparently sat in the kitchen for best part of 20 minutes and get this they wanted us to pay full price for the food when we turned it down they cooked a fresh burger and chips for us however after trying the food I felt sorry for the poor cow that was killed twice once for its meat and again when the chief attempted to cook it safe to say wouldn't recommend even if my pet goldfish wanted...
