Stopped in today for Father’s Day. Ordered Afternoon tea for 2, 2 sandwich’s and a pasty along with some drinks. Total or just under £65.00. After about 20 mins the pasty and 2 sandwich’s turned up. A bit of a wait, but they were busy so accepted this. Sandwich’s and pasty finished, we were still waiting for the afternoon tea (45 mins at this point). Just as I was going to go in and ask for a refund as we were wanting to leave, it turned up with a message of I will just get your side plates. After another 15 mins I found myself in the queue to ask for these plates, as they never turned up. Was very disappointed with the standard of the afternoon tea. Scones were fine, but the sandwich’s were made with bread that I can only describe as stale 😟. I really wanted to go in and complain face to face, but there was still a queue and really could not face queuing up a 3rd time to complain, and my partner was keen to leave and get home. For the money, there are plenty of other options we could have chosen and in hindsight wish we had. Every penny counts in the current climate and I am extremely frustrated that I have spent good money on substandard food. For that reason, it is highly unlikely that we will return anytime soon. I really hope the owner looks at these reviews and takes on board the feedback. I am not a serial complainer and only take the time to write a review when I feel they are justified (either good or bad) Yours sincerely, One disappointed customer.

We stopped by The Mousehole Cafe and Restaurant for lunch and were pleasantly surprised. The setting is charming, with a relaxed coastal vibe that matches the beauty of the village. We ordered a mix of light and comfort food—fresh salad, creamy cheese, crispy fries, hearty sandwiches, and drinks. The sandwiches were well-filled and satisfying, served warm with fresh ingredients. The fries were golden and crisp, not greasy. The side salad was fresh and nicely dressed, adding balance to the meal. The coffee was strong and aromatic, perfect for a post-meal pick-me-up. The vanilla milkshake was thick, smooth, and full of flavor—one of the best we’ve had in a while. Service was quick and friendly, and the staff made sure we were comfortable throughout. It’s clear they care about quality and presentation, which comes through in the food and the atmosphere. Shared a few photos so others can get a feel for the place—definitely recommend if you’re in the area. Great spot for a casual lunch or a coffee break.

Nice location for the cafe but sadly was very disappointed. Upon arriving, we were appointed to a table by staff. I ordered a hot milk chocolate for £3.60 and my partner ordered a ultimate chocolate milkshake which was £6.00, wait times were quick but there was nothing special about either drinks as the menu promises the milkshake to be filled with chocolate, sweets and cream etc, didn’t come with any chocolate and cheap dolly mix sweets as shown in photo. The hot chocolate wasn’t very hot, about luke warm at most and the milkshake was below average. Definitely don’t recommend this place for a milkshake or hot chocolate. The toilets were clean and the staff were helpful and friendly.

Went in today with a group, asked the brown haired waitress behind the counter how long the wait for food was, she checked with the kitchen and said 20 minutes maximum. I had a quick look to make sure there were enough tables for us, which there were, so I called the rest of the group in from outside. In the meantime a different waitress with long black hair asked my friend how many of us there were and my friend said 14, at which point (without even looking) the waitress said “we ain’t got 14.”

I politely said that I’d already checked and there were enough seats and we didn’t all need to be at the same one table, at which point she scowled and marched behind the counter to the till and turned her back on us. We all just stood there feeling really awkward, not knowing what was going on, so I apologised and said “I’m sorry, I feel like I’ve upset you?”

She kinda whipped her head around and snapped “no it’s fine” and then turned back to the till. Again we all just stood there feeling extremely awkward, and then the original staff member with the lighter brown hair (who was very friendly and polite) showed us through to the tables.

Black haired rude waitress followed her through and told us all that the wait for food was 45 minutes… despite the fact we’d just been told by the kitchen that it was only 20 minutes maximum…

We sat down and waited for someone to come take our order but everyone felt so uncomfortable with the rude behaviour of the waitress that half our group just left and went to the chip shop next door, so the cafe lost out on a lot of money.

The rest of us stayed because it was one of our group’s birthdays and we’d planned to order some cake and asked the staff to put a candle in it so we could sing happy birthday to him (which we ended up deciding not to do because we were made to feel so unwelcome and uncomfortable). We ordered pasties and vegan pasties which we were then told there were none of, so we had to switch our orders.

Food was ok, but would absolutely never return, due to the disgusting behaviour of the black haired waitress, who remained rude and unfriendly when she took our orders and brought out the food and scowled throughout.

Genuinely shocked about how badly we were treated by her. The lighter browned haired waitress was very lovely,...

Unfortunately I didn’t have a great experience in this cafe. We popped in for a cream tea. The staff were friendly enough (to start with) and the place was clean and tidy. But the mainstay of a cream tea is surely the scone. Well mine literally crumbled as soon as I put the knife in it to cut it and I was left with the bottom and a million tiny little pieces. Have you ever tried to spread cream and jam onto a crumb? Well let me tell you it is impossible! The bottom just about managed to stay together but it was only as I was using kid gloves to add the toppings. I did speak to one of the staff, she may have been the owner I’m not sure, but she was definitely not happy with my mentioning it as she just said OK after me saying it had fallen apart and that it was impossible to add the toppings. OK, OK, OK is not really conducive to a conversation. I said that maybe she could mention to the supplier that they were too crumbly and she replied that she had made them herself that morning and did I want another one. This offer was not made in good humour and it was obvious that she was miffed that I had complained and she took it personally as she had baked them. It was not a personal complaint as I have nothing against someone that I don’t know but an apology and a smile to a customer, who was very polite in her complaint, would have been welcome and far better customer service. I did not take her up on her offer of a replacement as I didn’t want another plate of crumbs. I would not advise anyone to not visit here, the rest of the menu may well have been excellent, but if I am ever in Cheddar again I will visit somewhere else for...
