El Mexicana — Restaurant in England

Absolute shambles! I would give a minus rating but sadly not an option. My friend and I placed an order on the screen for identical naked bowls. After 30 minutes wait I enquired where our food was and was advised it was ‘on the way’ so I waited at the counter. Whilst I was waiting many people were complaining about the wait and the chap behind the counter suggested to the female, ( who appeared to be in charge), that they shut down the ordering screens to allow for them to catch up. However she said no and other people continued to order. After 45 minutes our food was finally served, however the two bowls didn’t even resemble each other despite them being the same order. One bowl was only a quarter full and when I questioned why, I was told that they had run out of food!! Did they really think I was going to pay?! I declined the food and demanded a refund. Other people also got fed up waiting with one chap coming to the counter to say he had gone to another food outlet, ordered the food, eaten the food and his order still hadn’t been done. He was not the only one! So many people were demanding a refund because of the wait and lack of food. However, I was very disappointed to find that they keep pork products right next to the halal food items. This proximity raises serious concerns about cross-contamination, making it uncomfortable for anyone observing halal dietary requirements.

Claiming to be halal while storing pork in the same area is misleading and shows a lack of respect for halal standards. This oversight can be deeply disappointing and even distressing for Muslim customers who trust the halal certification as a mark of assurance.

I'm not one to leave negative reviews but honestly this has got to be the poorest quality mexican food I have ever eaten! Cheap cash & carry ingredients, bland and underwhelming food and portions are small. Nothing fresh or healthy as they claim. Request to the team that please take this feedback constructively. You have a good location but in an attempt to maximise your margins you are cutting corners e.g. on your menu you show Harrogate mineral water but I got given some cheap cash & carry branded water.
